Normal growth or trich?!?

Hey fellow shroomeries,
This is my first grow, I have been doing a lot of reading on the forums and i love the information this site has to offer. Since this is my first ever grow, i'm not too sure what to expect to see on a fully colonized substrate. From what I have read and seen on pictures, a really white growth compared to the mycelium is more than likely a contam. Can somebody please help me identify if this is normal or trich?? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't look like trich to me, but it also doesn't look like any cube growth I've ever seen.. I wish it wasn't so blurry.. get a better picture, isolate it for now, and wait to see if anything happens.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have isolated the tub for a day now but nothing seems to have changed so far. I also took a few more pictures with a good camera which are zoomed in. Should i just leave it for a few more days? Or give it light and FAE to fruit and see what happens?

My guess is mycogone. Keep an eye on it. Make sure you don't see any more bumps, as well as any metabolite looking droplets covering the bumps. This is a severe case of it: never let it get like this.

You might be able to pull out a flush or 2 until it gets toast and spreads, or triches out. I'd still keep it in isolation tho.

You were right! I found a bit of it on another tub a well... I can now see a bubble or two on the other tub but it looks very small as well. Should i even bother with fruiting it? Or just throw it away and start over again? It's very frustrating to see all that work go to waste.

Well fruit it either in isolation, or just throw it outside. 1 way or another you'll still get fruits. I live in a really harsh climate. Plant hardiness zone 2.
Check out this thread showing my contamination pile over the summer.

Honestly I've had mycogone fruited in isolation at home. I wanted to watch it because I love contaminations it's never really posed a problem for any of my future grows. My best guess is since it's a pure white mold, it's probably germinated with the cube mold in the spawn, and showed up during fruiting. That's why I do agar work. I can isolate healthy, clean spots. That way I know 100% it's just cubensis going into a jar

Okay sounds good. I will fruit it anyways and see what happens. I started with agar and chose a nice piece of rhizo growth for start my grain jars. Maybe I was careless with one of my G2G transfers and it got contaminated without me noticing. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah probably from the g2g. I don't trust g2gs anymore. Pretty sketchy. A2g is what I did until I was confident in my procedure. Then I started doing agar 2 lcs. If you can have a pretty close to 100% success rate with agar transfers, you'll get that with lcs. Besides you can test every lc you make on a few dishes of agar. It'll tell you how clean it really is lol. With g2g, it's not like you can test the cleanliness of your grains on agar before making more jars.
The biggest misconception is liquids are easier or come first before agar. I must disagree. Working with agar should come first. It truly teaches you sterile techniques and will give you a clean inoculation for your lcs

Hmm, sounds like a good idea. I will definitely do some research on agar to lcs. Appreciate all the tips. Cheers!!!
