You could probably get mushrooms to grow without the bottom holes BUT you are going to want the holes on the bottom. Without the bottom holes you will not get proper free air exchange and you might also have trouble with your humidity levels.

Like how many holes should I have on the bottom? As many as possible or just enough to get the excess water to drain?

~1/4" holes about 2in apart.

Listen to MadSeason.

It has nothing to do with draining water and not a whole lot to do with FAE. The physics of the SGFC rely on 1/4" holes every 2" in a grid pattern on all 6 sides in order to allow air to move upward through the moist perlite thus humidifying the chamber.

Follow the tek. Make holes on the bottom the same way they should have been on the other 5 sides. 1/4" diameter every 2".

:whathesaid: I was too lazy to say it haha.

@OP, without the bottom holes, the perlite is basically useless. There's a reason why it's only ever seen on a proper sgfc

the bottom holes are arguably the most important ones...

second link in my signature explains how the SGFC works, contrary to what every noob on the planet thinks it's not what you would expect.
