Grains VS Brf as a spawn

People say that the mycelium only digests the surface of the grain, is that true? Wouldn't it be a waste of nutrients since the mycelium doesn't digest the center of the grains?
If I spawn in different monotubs a quart jar full of grains and a quart jar full of Brf and verm each monotub will produce more mushrooms?

Who told you tht?? Mycelium penetrates the grain.
But to answer your question;I'd go with grains for the fact that they will give you a ton of inoculation points in your bulk sub, compared to a few chunks of brf/verm.
I put my money on the grains producing more; but what do I know, I'm high as a kite.. lol

Yeah, I found it strange, because grains wouldn't be so popular as a spawn if it was true.
My theory is that initially it doesn't digest the whole grain, but as it grows mycelium and mushrooms, the grains will shink and the enzymes keeps degrading it until there's nothing left.

Of course if you use a cheese grater or blend the cake into a slurry to spawn you end up with nearly unlimited nock points. But not everyone likes a 3 day spawn run
The reason grains are preferred is because they can be used to expand with more ease than brf and also colonize fast due to shaking. BRF is also costly compared to most grains.
