I have a jar of fully colonized grain..

So I received a "grow kit refill" today, which is essentially some verm and a jar of colonised grain. I've got a plastic tub for this. This will give you ideas of size: http://puu.sh/j8Vz2/c3b9b6a524.jpg
I'm very much an amateur, and I'm wondering what the best thing is I could do with this.
First thing which occurs is grain to grain transfers.. I could essentially turn this jar into 10? 15? I'd imagine the risks of contamination with this are quite high due to the exposure by removing the lid?
I could put it in the plastic container as per the instructions.. but then I'd like to know, if I used a bigger container, more verm and spread the mycelium thinner, would this be a problem? I'm sure it would lengthen colonisation time, but would it affect the mushroom growth ultimately? The tub is 8x22x15cm.
Any other suggestions? I do have a pressure cooker
Thanks!

You don't have to worry about contamination when a jar is 100%. Do G2G and then you can add that to a small opaque tray, mix with coir and you'll be good. Oh and you can case if you want.

You should be doing G2G transfers inside a still air box. (SAB)

And you received colonized grains in the mail...? what type of mushrooms are you growing?
Did you mean sterilized grains?

I am more concerned with contaminating the destination jars which still need to colonize..

G2G is safe enough as long as the growth in your master jar is clean and you follow proper sterile procedure in a still air box or in front of a flow hood. Most of us do G2G transfers on a fairly regular basis. If you decide not to G2G. Then mix about a quarter brick of coir in with that grain and verm in a larger tote. look up how to make a mini monotub. Where do you live that you are abled to order cube spawn in the mail?

You might want to remove the top layer of grains if you G2G with it. You never know if it might have been opened in non-sterile conditions. The provider could smell test it, or the postal service could have opened it. Not likely, but possible.
Do you have spawn grain, spawn jars, and a still air box? It's a bit of advanced step to take if all you've done is a precolonized grow kit. Not to be insulting, but it's not something you should try in an off the cuff, yeah it'd be cool if I could get more out of this jar, way.
Perhaps try to grab some spore prints and do some PF tek/grain spawn.
Given that it's only a half liter of spawn, it's not that likely you'll get a huge improvement from using a larger quantity of bulk substrate. How much verm is that, 1L?
You could also emtpy most of into a bowl in a still air box, and save around .1L in your fridge, then take your time with creating your own spawn grain then g2g, or better get, put it on agar.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Awesome advice, thanks! I'm sterilizing grain jars at the moment.
I know it is an advanced setup, but I am going to need the equipment sooner or later, and I think that that increasing my mycelium quantity by a significant amount (I'd say around 7 times with the jars I've prepared) is a more exciting way to learn than simply mixing this one up with the verm it came with. If I screw up by failure, then I'll still learn, and if I get it right, then cool!
I have inoculated some PF Tek's with LC as well, they only have shown signs of growth 3 weeks later, but it is winter here so not surprised. I've created an incubation chamber now and they're doing their thing.
I'd say it is about a litre of verm, yeah.
Your last comment, about emptying into a bowl.. What do you mean? What would I do with a bowl 0.9L of mycelium?
With g2g, are the chances of comtam lower, since the mycelium has a head start, while any mould spores would still need to germinate?

If it took 3 weeks to see growth from your LC, it's probably bad or sterile. Most people would have their cakes mostly colonized from multispore at that point.
The thing I said about the bowl is this: If you're going to use this jar of grains as a master culture, you need to only open it in an airbox.
So here's what I'd suggest: G2G your jars but about 1/3cup 80ml of grains in your jar. In the airbox, put 40ml into a .5L glass jar. Save the other 40ml as a master culture in your fridge. Mix the spawn in the quart jar with 40ml of field capacity vermiculite and mix. This is almost the same as invitro grow, and given it does not rely on your sterile technique, it should give you a surefire way to get a spore print. A glass quart would also be fine.
From your master jar, you can remove individual grains to inoculate small starter grain substrates, then g2g those to further rounds of spawn jars in the future.
Do your best to avoid having shit open a long time or having your hands above it in the airbox.
Downside is that you might only have enough to g2g 4 jars this way. However, you could always G2G your aditional jars from one of the initial four, but you'd have a much larger safety net. Up to you.
