Pleurotus sp. contamination?
    #21980116 - 07/22/15 12:13 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

So this is actually my first post here and I plan to have many more. I'm building a fungal incubator right now from a mini fridge and arduino control that has some pretty fun features. As soon as it's done I'll share all my details and success!

I have been maintaining some stock cultures that have been doing well but my Pleurotus sp. looks a little odd to me. It is very white and wispy but it has little dark dots at the tip of the mycelium that are extending from the agar. I have transferred several times from the terminus of new growth and it always comes out likes this:

I've never seen Pleurotus mycelium on agar with these dots at the tip. At first glance it kind of looks like Rhizopus sporangium but the dots are no where near that big and never get any bigger. I've had them on agar for 2 weeks and the fill the plate but the dots never increase in size. I haven't found any other images or cultures that look like this aside from what is discussed here. But again, these dots are very small and never change size. This culture was originally taken from live tissue and is on MEA. Any ideas?
