Has this been done? Push-on no tape bottle humidity dome

I have a collection of various kinds of container--you never know when they will come in handy! I recently got back into amateur mushroom cultivation and just this morning had a eureka moment. I enacted my vision and here is the result:

I can't believe that this hasn't been done before--I know it has, in fact but maybe I have put a slightly new twist on it with this little innovation:

Into the base of the plastic V-8 bottle has been cut--with a power scroll saw--a cross, or an X if you like. This configuration allows the bottle to be set on top of a quart mason jar and pushed down over the lid--the lid can be removed first. The wedges in the bottom left by the saw give way before the jar lid but still exert enough tension to then hold the bottle in place around the top of the jar.The photo says it better than I can.
Probably this exact same formulation has been used at least 100 times before, but I haven't seen it, so to me it is original and I stake my flag in it and claim it for my own!
Seriously, I hope it helps somebody who is as green to it as I was.
This is for use, by the way, in invitro fruiting projects.

just spend 15 bucks and get a real humidity dome

Anybody can do that! Of course, you will say, "Anybody can do this too." OK. It may be hoaky, but it's mine! I'd much rather roll my own.

What am I looking at? are you trying to make a tight as possible seal btw a jar and a normal PET bottle? the pics were kinda small so it was hard for me to see.
and is this a backup fc? humidity dome just sounds off when we rather want a fresh air dome for fruiting..

Well, first, I am not trying to make a tight as possible seal, but rather a seal that is inherent in the dome itself. You don't need anything to keep the bottle on the jar except the position of the bottle itself. Depending on the size of the bottle and the size of the jar, this is not only self sealing but also it can be ajdusted by pushing the bottle further down the side of the jar. As for fresh air--all yyou have to do is unscrew the cap and set it ajar or remove it altogether and stuff some polyfil in the hole (or not). Also, this can be tweaked to include polyfil stuffed (or not)air ports on the sides of the bottle.
This not a substitute for a FC exactly, but can be used that way for someone who is fruiting in jars. I have a couple of newly cased rye berry jars. I will test this device and another like it on these jars and report back.

Yeah you should cut a couple holes in it and stuff loosely with poly. Cut them near the bottom for sure and probably the top too would be a good place for them. When the bottle looks dry, mist. Poly is super cheap and a bag lasts forever. Would really improve that thing if you did. Otherwise I feel confident your mushrooms will suffer their whole existence trying to breath, using all their energy to stretch, and feeling pretty miserable. They are closer to humans than plants after all. You'll be starving them of oxygen.

I like your suggestions and will put them to good use. Thanks.

Lol you should do that and call it a mini dubtub. Also yes it has been done before, I've seen a very successful one, and it was the guys first grow, within the last 6 months.

I just took a bottle, cut the top off it, turned it upside down, set it into itself, and put poly in the hole, and it sorta worked. That was just a wedge of agar spawned to straight coir and verm, so... getting anything at all was more than I expected. The lighter safeties that are melted into the sides are used to flip the lid the other way in case it dries out.
People have probably made all kinds of ghetto shit like this. Most anything will work if you're willing to put in the upkeep for the inevitable design flaws. I don't think there's such thing as a fruiting chamber without flaws though.
Oh, but what I was getting at, I have used that lid on some jars and it kinda sorta worked. A one-way, dead end channel of air is no good, really, though. This was last year while I was bored as hell and was curious if I could just whip up a ghetto noob-looking FC and have it work.
