Major news outlets generally don't cover the videos of people doing their jobs, they can only usually watch that on youtube.

Police brutality, is basically on every news website, or viral website that exist, giving people a different outlet other then youtube to watch it on. Plus going to the internet and searching out videos is one thing, turning on tv and having them broadcast to you almost daily is a different thing.

Like I said above, I disagree. Negative interactions with cops has become so common, people are quick to post when they find a cop doing their job and having a positive experience from it, because it's so goddamn refreshing. Watch the videos I posted and tell me you don't disagree.

This is a subject I watch very closely. People are filming cops nowadays more than ever. The negative interactions outweigh the positive ones for the most part, sadly. But it's nice when we find cops doing their jobs properly, upholding the Constitution.. and ACTUALLY serving and protecting the public like they are SUPPOSED TO DO..  and we encourage more cops to follow their lead.

You said that's the first positive cop video you've seen. I've probably seen hundreds. Compared to the thousands of bad ones. Good cops are definitely out there, but they are becoming a rarer breed. Hopefully that changes.

I disagree completely. I follow several sites like copblock, whose sole purpose is to film every interaction with police. Due to the massive increase in police brutality over the past 10 years or so.
They may post a lot of videos of cops abusing people and abusing their powers, killing people for petty crimes and so on.
But they also will post whenever someone posts a video of cops upholding the constitution and being a good cop, give them praise and state things like now THIS is how cops should behave, more cops like this please!
They aren't out there to just villainizeall police. They are there to hold them accountable for their actions as public servants.
When cops do their job, they recognize it and praise it.

Fair enough, I'm not against a police reform of sorts, I just don't personally think it's as bad as people think it is, and people being outraged and lashing out at police because of it is an ineffective way of handling it and causing police to overreact more. Idk though, I don't have the solution, just seems like it's being taken to a level that is unnecessary.

Not all of the time but a lot of these videos I think people handle the situation wrong as well, you do have rights, if you assert them and you are correct and a cop decides to overstep them, shut your mouth, and let them do what they're going to do anyway, and the courts and a lawyer would almost definitely get it thrown out due to violating you. But most people decide to start resisting or fighting back instead of just waiting to win later. As I said though, just my opinion, and my opinion is irrelevant and will never have an effect on the outcome, so it's not something I'm willing to defend really, just what I believe.

i know of copblock, but i don't follow it. i can't handle facebook much, i just kind of go by what i see on the forums here and i see more people talking about negative interactions than positive ones.

anyway, i think it's proper that we DO praise good and proper behavior from police as it seems there is rampant corruption in various places, it might help increase the incidences of good behavior

Unfortunately, even if you do everything perfectly, (which.. you cannot expect everyone to be completely perfect and level headed in every situation).. but even if you do everything perfectly, that doesn't mean some crazy cop isn't going to blow your head off. I could post some examples for you if you like. But this is supposed to be a positive cop thread.

Yes, it's good practice in general to cooperate with the police... no one disputes that. Unfortunately, there's a lot of sick motherfuckers out there with badges who overstep their bounds on the regular and get away with murder, literally. That's why there is a growing distrust of the police. Even if you struggle against a cop (fight or flight mechanism..), that doesn't give them a right to execute you on the street when you posed zero threat to them. I can understand when a cop kills someone that poses a tangible threat to them. It's the other stuff I have problems with.

I agree with that, I don't think police should get away with murder, and when put in that perspective I can understand peoples fear of the unknown that could happen from an interaction especially if police brutality cases are statistically growing. That would be the reform I'd definitely support, them being trained more efficiently in non-lethal takedowns, or even development or use of technology (some of which is already at their disposal, such as tasers) to subdue someone without always resorting to the gun or shooting people. And the ones who blatantly kill people who weren't a real threat should be charged.

I still personally think it isn't as many cops as people think or the way people are going about changing it, I may just be naive about it. But I can still definitely understand your point and the reasons people are upset about it.
