Nun's trips - these days, psilocybin only
    #21979041 - 07/22/15 05:47 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Just creating a thread to describe my trips.

The Past
Many LSD blotters and a few microdots.
I used to love it, but I definitely had a few which weren't pure LSD.
I had some experiences which scared me deeply, of course, being a young fool taking trips too often and in silly circumstances. I enjoyed laughing myself silly with friends but soon it became a more loner thing for me to explore more seriously.
Most of the visuals were trails/staggered movements and occasionally bright patterns.
I found a regular source of Strawberry Ohms coming in from Amsterdam and those became the staple for me, but mostly mild in effect for the amount of fear they caused.

When I first tried mushrooms it was incredible….
about 80 dried small liberty caps - ate the lot in one go, proper hallucinations...
I thought that LSD was rubbish compared to mushrooms.
I tried to pick as many as I could each season.

Then one day I had a Pink Floyd Brick in the Wall, which really was stunning.
I'd never had such a great LSD trip as that where I could let the visuals develop so far.
The only other trips which compared to it were purple ohms and microdots, but
those usually had a lot of unwanted effects as well - really heavy body trips.

Anyway eventually I reached my limit and stopped enjoying tripping, so I stopped.
A few years had gone by and it was time to sober up and get a career.
I smoked weed still but I stayed away from everything else.
My weed habit was a bit out of control but I managed okay.
I grew my own and used a vape, had a fave strain which was quite trippy as weed goes.

After about 18 years since my last proper trip,
I ate a decent hit of cubensis sclerotia in Amsterdam and it totally charmed me.
I thought it was a beautiful high for almost no bodily discomfort or fear.
It felt like I had a rubber band twanging in my brain making me giggle.
Four of us laughed ourselves silly for about 3 hours and then I really enjoyed the
images and trippy ideas later as I smoked and chilled for sleep.
I felt better for about a week afterwards, and really noticed how I remembered it.

Another couple of years passed….
…I gave up weed - no longer agreed with me, more negative than positive.
After the withdrawals/adjustment, I still wanted a holiday from myself occasionally
so I researched cubensis cultivation, bought a kit, and got a crop dried.

The Present
I use shrooms as a sort of soul food, resetting my psyche about once every 8 weeks.
It's really helped me in quitting weed - particularly with the weird argument in my head
about whether I enjoy being stoned anymore.
I know I don't, but an irrational part of my mind would overrule every so often
and I'd vape again, not enjoy it…… rinse and repeat….. shrooms broke that nonsense.

My favoured approach is to eat 2g at about 8pm and then go to bed after 3 hours and lie in the dark watching the closed eye visuals.

One of my trips recently revealed a glittery, spiky octopus-bat demon, I'll never forget

I am sensitive to psilocybin because I don't have much MAOI - I avoid cheese
and bacon in my diet because of migraines.
If have more than 2g I get twitchy legs on the come up, and it puts me firmly on the toilet as well, drooling, which I can cope with, but clearly I don't want or need more than that.

Ok so I'll update proper details and madness from future trips here as I go.

Re: Analysis of the octopus bat demon experience [Re: Nun]

The most important trip of my life so far
contained that octopus bat demon thing.

Seems worth summarising my thoughts about that.

It began as a complex fractal architecture, like a mosque ceiling.
It was enormous and incredibly detailed, with a lot of square-based patterns.
This came after a series of strange, disjointed ideas and images of 1970s
colour schemes and patterns, which were amusing to me in that I couldn't
think of anything less visually impressive.
Anyway this complex sculptural fractal pattern was fascinating and as it grew
and formed arches and domes, I felt dwarfed by it.

When the octopus made itself known, it was rather like the scene in Aliens
where they suddenly move from hiding on the walls amongst the sculpture.
I felt insignificant before it.

It didn't threaten me or anything like that, but I felt nervous about observing it.
I tried to be as respectful as I could, feeling as though I was beneath its contempt.
I only saw the bat wings briefly, almost as a confusing answer to the question I was forming about whether it was a squid or an octopus - neither !
But it did have that curious shape-shifting effect which octopi have where they
can go smooth or spiky really rapidly.

Okay so, what to make of it?

Firstly I can't write it off as a simple personal idiom.
When I told someone about it, they immediately said "C'Thul'hu" and I have to agree that what I saw matches that Lovecraftian creature.

Do I think it's real?

I don't know and I don't think it matters.
What matters is that a particular fractal pattern from basic maths led to it
and it's a commonly perceived 'entity'.
It might physically exist somewhere distant in space but that's almost beside the point.

How has this experience affected me?

I feel more connected to mankind.
I feel more validated in that I had a vision, from first principles, which totally chimes
with a common vision.
Whilst it was a daunting and scary experience, it tells me that my mind is not so different
from everyone else's.

Thanks CosmicAdventurer.

Describing trips is the ultimate writer's challenge, it's not easy at all.
Anyone can talk about dreams they had but 99% of the time it's boring for the audience.

So I'll try to keep it short.

Synaesthesia.
I really enjoy trips where the confusion is limited to synaesthesia without really slowing my mind. The 'feel' of colours, or hearing/speaking jumbled words because they 'mean' something I can 'see'.
I'm sure this is just increased suggestivity - on trips we can believe a lot more to be true because in the subconscious, there's less distinction between ideas - everything is everything else.
So there's a tendency for things to seem to "make sense" in some new way ……
to have extra significance.
I once spent 5 minutes admiring the shape of a chopped capsicum pepper.
It seemed to somehow reflect a lot of the laws of physics - the curve of the flesh suggested how the orbital axial spin of a moon follows from its orbit.

It's a joke you can't get when you're sober - relatively clear but strange logic.

Most trips I've had have caused too much confusion for me to think about such grand ideas as planetary angular momentum.

We once bought a load of blotters with witches printed on them; each tab had the red silhouette of witch on a broomstick.
Those were rather weak trips but we were at a party and it was fun anyway. Lots of beer. We were still unable to sleep, at 3am.
I wasn't seeing any patterns or trails or feeling trippy, but ….
…. I remember looking at a fern in a flowerpot as I tried to doze off. It was a new shoot, like a curled up paper streamer. Suddenly it extended several feet to the floor. This really freaked me out because it was a clear, bold hallucination which looked so real. Out of nowhere, a really convincing visual.

I often wonder about that.
Whether my mind was too saturated with weed and rough acid to really appreciate a truly
good bit of it.

There was at least one other time I took what everyone thought was weak acid
and got properly spanked by it.
This time there was a 5 pointed red star on each blotter.
Again, most of the evening passed, quite fun but we were all disappointed with the trips.
I had a bit of hash at home so I rolled up, toked up and passed it round.
By the time it came back to me I was in trouble. We all got hit really hard by this strange 'acid' which seemed to rear up like a tidal wave as soon as we smoked hash.
It was just totally disorientating, like I'd slipped out of synch and didn't hear things at the same time I saw them, and I couldn't understand speech.
It was one of the most unpleasant and lonely experiences I've ever had - absolutely wrecked and fearful, stuck in a bouncing, echoing, angular mess for about 3 hours.

I've had similar experiences with microdots, only those were headachy as well.

So now, I just don't trust synthetic trips.
If professionals made, tested and labelled batches, and gave a "use by" date I'd be okay with that, but I don't wanna be a guinea pig drug tester for some nameless chef in a nameless kitchen.

I find psilocybin trips tend to be really colourful and that's a good sign.
I also really like the immensely 'spiritual' side of it, which I didn't seem to get from LSD.
To me, it makes a lot of sense to avoid LSD and stick to the most manageable, close analog of DMT which doesn't require a further poison to work properly…..

One thing I've really noticed since I cut right back on pot, and got back into shrooms, is that pot is actually a really harsh buzz. I wouldn't call it a 'soft' drug anymore.

It hits me so hard that I dissociate from myself, enter a sort of boring trance, get a dry mouth from mouth-breathing, and then feel tired for about 2 weeks.
From a single vape bag I get the sort of physiological consequences of serious poisoning.
No thanks.
I can get a far better buzz from mushrooms with minimal side-effects.
