Cobweb or Mycelium?
    #21978045 - 07/21/15 10:46 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

My better judgement leans on cobweb... I still feel like throwing it in the fruiting chamber and seeing if its viable... So yea... Cobweb or mycelium? What do u think?

How foul does it smell? Does it smell nasty or mushroomy?

When in doubt, throw it out

Smells like casing layer... I made a LC from BPK with RGS, and when it recovered it the mycelium looked weird.. I was in doubt, but I didn't notice the usual characteristics that denote cobweb.

What I noticed about cobweb is they thrive in a wet environment, it gets very fluffy very quick, and takes up all the empty space it can... I didn't see it getting fluffy,  So I smelled the jar when I opened it, not sure but does cobweb have  any odor? I smelt that good mushroom smell. I went ahead and spawned it.

Notes: RGS probably isn't the best choice for LC... The Rye berries worked better.

Cobweb imo smells horrible. Idk I've had some really fuzzy mycelium look just like that.. if it smelt mushroomy going in, only smells like casing, and it doesn't look really fluffy. Just really tomemtose. I'm going to say it's cubensis. Maybe try fruiting it in isolation, but it doesn't look much different from stuff like:

Honestly to this day mycelium can surprise me. However I've found more often than not fuzzy white is mycelium. Cottony can turn into wet bubble and Sandy turns to trich.

I told both of these people they had bad stuff haha. What op has looks close to or even better than those examples. I bet it's fine

Altho conversely there are white fuzzy molds that have been bad too. It's really damn bard to gauge.

Can we get a picture of it today?

Thank you for your insight and information. Tomentose (now there's a new vocabulary word), it means :covered with densely matted woolly hairs <a tomentose leaf> very cool

We shall see what happens!
Thank you Mad Season!

I had to know if it was healthy so i checked the side of the tray, gently pulling the foil to discovery wonderful and healthy white mycelium making its way up, heres a pic, and when pins come i can show you those too.

also noted, that it smells very mushroomy.
