Bulk fruited before casing!?

Well... I was awaiting full colonization of a casing that consists of a thin layer of sterile vermiculite on bottom, a layer of poo/straw on top of that, followed by a quart of colonized grain and finally a thin layer of poo tops it off, but... I had this in my "Big Lots Tent", which I covered with a blanket. The casing container was inside a gray plastic bag, with a few holes in it. I kept a regular check and it was up to 85+% colonization with very healthy nice rhyzomorphic mycelium Saturday afternoon. On Sunday afternoon, I checked it and it had shrooms growing on it. These things were 1 - 1.5" tall! I chunked it into the fruiting chamber sans casing. Let us make a Kierkegaardian leap of faith and just assume this thing does not contam, I think I'm going to harvest the first flush when it's finished and then "case" with another layer of pasturized poo. Insane? Pics? BTW: Bulk substrate is AMAZINGLY POWERFUL stuff. I have another casing that consists of a quart of colonized Pearl Millet cased top and bottom with 50/50 Sphagnum peat and vermiculite with gypsum, crushed oyster shells and h2o. Some DAMN good clumps of pins coming up on that one too.

Exactly what I thought I'd do at first, I may go ahead and case with my usual mixture as you do. Thanks for reply

Damn the same shit(no pun intended) happened to me. You need an incubator bro! I just made one yesterday. The clerk and Petsmart asked me what kind of fish I had . I said Bettas and she has Bettas too . She asked why I needed a heater since they liked the cooler temps! I was outta there after getting my heater!

I have a nice still air egg incubator, but I think it best not to incubate bulk, though. I incubate straight cased grains and patch case or 3 times, then fruit when I get what seems relatively uniform colonization, while avoiding overlay. It was just an amizangly fast, one day transition from healthy myc. to "shrooms".

could it have been a drop in temp for a few hrs that made the casing pin so fast? Thats how i started getting my cakes and casings to pin, temp cycling bettween the fridge at night and back to 75-85 during the day. -matty

Hmm, nah man, no temp change- remained around 68 - 73 F. It was strange! I'm baffled by it.

It's bulk: store it in the dark at around room temp with a covering that has a few holes, wait for full colonization, then apply casing layer and then fruit...It was kept in a room at around 72 F, the bulk is supposed to make heat itself...
