Heh, damn noobs bumping old threads.
Incidentally, look what 23andMe did for me a while back for just $100. It's genotyping, not sequencing, but still pretty friggin awesome.

That's pretty cool. Has any of that information made itself useful yet?

I think genotyping would require sequencing wouldnt it?

Nah, except for telling me I have brown eyes, curly hair and psoriasis, which I already know. I'm not sure it's accurate enough to take seriously when it comes to health planning or medical treatment, although they're incorporating new studies all the time. But I'm not really good about taking care of my health to begin with... a brisk walk four times a week would probably do me a lot more good than all the genetic screening in the world. Mostly I just got it for entertainment purposes, and a morbid curiosity to see how I might die.
The genealogy part of the site seems good for getting in touch with long-lost relatives though. I don't have much interest in that, but I have an inbox full of like 80 people who are likely to be fifth cousins or closer and want to compare family trees.
Pscientist, I'm kind of confused about the terminology too and I might not be using it right but they do answer this question at https://www.23andme.com/you/faqwin/sequencing/.

Lol, nice Ythan, I didn't realize they laid it out so nice, might have to consider that when I have $100 to throw.
To be honest, this is one of the times I don't mind a 7.5 year old thread getting bumped, even a previously useless one, because that link Baby_Hitler posted was pretty cool

But does the kiddy toy work are not? Couldn't you even use it for small mammals or bugs or something like that?
