about to noc up my first batch ever, wbs pint jars ill soon be noccing up with some field spore syringes i made. I just need a run through of my process to see if everything will work out. I filled the syringes with pc sterilized water at room temp, scraped spores w a sterilized knife into a shot glass. spurt water, suck spurt repeat to mix spores. i flame sterilized the needle before this. jar lids are blue rtv and tyvek, covered in foil when pcd for 90 mins at 16 psi (couldnt dial in 15) the bird seed was rinsed multiple times in a fiberglass window screen since my colanders holes were too big. then simmered with the screen on the pot, resulting in a dark brown water which was before clear, but the grains were soaked over night. but they were rinsed well after the 30 minute simmer. so lets hope everything colonizes.

Did you drain or let the WBS dry out before loading in the jars?... I like the TP/Paper Towel test...Put a few grains on toilet paper... Count like 15 seconds...If it leaves a pronounced wet spot...the WBS is still too wet. You can also pick up a handful... If only a few grains stick to your hand (instead of bird seed all over your hand)...You are good. I am however, trying a new WBS prep...and it leaves the WBS much wetter than I'm used to... We'll have to see if it dries out after a few days.
BTW...Walmart sells a great strainer for WBS...small holes, it's metal, and adjusts to fit in a sink...all for like $15...There's a link to it in one of my other threads... I'll see if I can find it

These are the strainers you need, the mesh kind.
Other than the jars being over filled (you are going to have problems shaking them), good luck! The grain looks good

Your wild spore prints are going to be rough. I wouldn't want to bet on them being clean and would want to use agar. Might work but there's a high chance of contams.

Yeah the shake won't mix the grains up much.
Might be interesting when it's fully colonized to break it up. I know some recommend a bike tire but I've never had an issue just slapping jars against my palm.
Overfilling the jars also reduces the amount of air available to the myc and increases the likelihood of a stall.

I have been doing the palm since the start. Tried a tire, never going back. Its 10x as efficient.
