Psychotic Fiction

So I've lately been trying to get back into reading more fiction, I'm currently reading 'Kafka on the Shore' by Haruki Murakami and I'm quite enjoying it so far but I'm looking for something a little more 'out there'.
I understand mental illness is a serious issue and isn't something to be taken lightly, but when it comes to telling stories (fiction or not), I think it can be an amazing plot device. So, here's my question, can any of you recommend any fiction novels where the character/s or the perspective/s of the book are largely influenced by psychosis, mental illness, et cetera. Preferably not too long (~500 pages, or there abouts) as I'd like to be able to read a few more books this year, not exactly a slow reader but I haven't got all the time in the world.
Might be a bit of an odd request, but I'm a bit odd, sure we all are somehow. Regards.

How about Fight Club? And possibly other books by Chuck Palahniuk.

I've seen the movie and it's definitely on of my favourites, I'm kinda looking for a cross between that and Alice in Wonderland (sort of, aha). I'd be interested in reading the book however I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy it, having already seen the movie. If they're fairly different I might give that a try.

Just had a brief look at a review for it, definitely sounds very interesting. Unfortunately my local library doesn't seem to have it but I'll keep an eye out, definitely sounds like the kind of book I want to read.
Probably got enough for now, but if anyone has any other suggestions feel free to let me/us know

I thought of a few others:
A Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho
Read VALIS first, though. It's one of the top three books I've ever read, and in all honesty I don't say that flippantly.

Bumping an old thread here, but I think it's justified. I finally got around to reading VALIS and finished doing so, it was awesome, without spoiling anything for people who haven't read it, the last couple chapters were 'mind blowing', thanks for the recommendation. I'm now currently reading A Void, a full novel that doesn't ever use the the letter or any words containing the letter 'e', very impressive. And I've got Naked Lunch and Catch 22 also purchased and ready to read. Damn. Books. So. Good.
