we need pics...pics always help..if not..id say wait a couple more days,..if still, nothing happens...id drop the temp for a few hours. that should help induce pinning

Unfortunately, pictures arent an option. I have been growing for a while, but this is my first uncased straw attempt. The top inch or so of the cake looks very white and fluffy...pretty much from end to end it has filled in the areas between the straw and softened the edges of everything...below that it looks somewhat less fluffy, but still well colonized.

I am trying to remember when I did brf cakes before, but as i recall, the surface of a cake was pretty solid...this is much fluffier. Not a lot of rizomorphs, although there are some climbing the sides of the rubbermaid.

It sure is possible. I'm now fruiting a straw bin that took forever to colonize and I noticed a small pin growing from the straw itself (no casing layer at this time). I realized that it might be the time to case this thing !

Why are you doing this exactly? Just to experiment? My guess is that it will probably fruit but they will have a hard time growing big because they will soon be too heavy to stand on open straw. They won't have an additional layer that helps a lot to ground themselve solidly.

I had excellent luck experimenting with uncased wheat straw, spawned with wheat berries. Got 4-5 flushes, stayed nice and white the whole time, nice healthy Plantasia Mystery fruits. It had a pin when I got around to casing it, so I just let it go. Misted the sides and lid daily, and it did great, even though I could see small amounts of water in the bottom corners of the casing box. Never did contam, just stopped producing. Good luck.

Drop the temp, keep the humidity high and start exposing it to light, those are the signs it needs to throw it into pinning. I'd suggest cold-shocking it for like 8-12 hrs in the fridge. After that the mycelium will know that it needs to hurry up and produce spores before the cold weather comes and it'll start trying to throw mushrooms up. Good luck.

someones first attempt with straw was 2 nice size pans -- 2 in x 12 x 9 -- were "cased" with a layer of verm -- just enough to see the verm on top -- and leftover was put into 2 quart size containers.

the 2 containers... fruited as cakes -- produced very small amounts of fruits -- 3-4 each -- but they were nice sized.

the "casings" arent done yet -- but from the looks of it -- they wont produce nearly as well as someone thought.

this may have been due to an improper casing layer -- or just plain inexpierience with straw.

all colonized fast -- fruiting took forever .

b+ isolate

spawned from wbs.

It sounds like it just needs more time...the humidity is back to 95+ and I have dropped the temp to 71...i dont know if i can get it any colder, but it sounds like I am alright...thanks a lot!
