Cubes are just cubes when it comes to potency(besides PE) yes, but people like different strains because they have slightly different tendencies. Also different history's.
For instance, I usually grow PE for potency and thickness of the stems. BUT...if I were to grow non-PE's, then I like to choose Amazonians(because Terence first started with this cube, plus I love the amazon for several reasons) AND I like the Mexican strain because its the strain that Maria Sabina practiced her shamanistic rituals with.

There's an entire thread dedicated to this. Go to the strain thread and ask it there,

My understanding is that some strains might have different tendencies but that the variability within the genetics of one strain is so high it hardly makes any difference. It seems like the best course of action (for efficiency at least) is the pick a strain and just start doing agar work and testing until you stumble upon some great genetics.

Different mushrooms grow completely differently. Some produce smaller, denser fruits and some produce tall, thin fruits. Lots of different characteristics, including potency (though very much dependant on cultivation techniques)

Different strains are different. Some of us actually enjoy watching things grow and develop and like observing the small differences.
You can argue about potency till you are blue in the gills, but unless someone can show me cubes that get as potent as other species, I'm saying a cube is a cube.
Genetics play a role, and if you are talking MS inoculation then cubes have an average potency by volume. To suggest otherwise you gotta be using cloning and experimentation. Or an understanding of organic chemistry analysis that I cant comprehend

So we're your personal research assistants? Dude, go fucking read the thread that's specifically dedicated to your query. They created that thread so you people would stay out of cultivation with all of these "strain" questions.

Mush Cult Rules: 6. Do NOT ask strain questions in cultivation. There is a sticky thread at the top of the page for such nonsense. 'Strain' in mushrooms is not the same as strain in pot growing, thus we keep 'strain talk' sequestered in it's own dungeon so people won't think it actually matters.

I'm not trolling you, I'm telling you that there is a thread strictly dedicated to strain discussion and you're being a lazy cry baby and asking everyone in the cultivation forum to give you an explanation because you're too lazy to read. I'm going to continue to tell you this until you leave, or a mod closes the thread because it belongs in the strain thread and it violates rule # six you dickface.

Some people's kids...

Act like an adult and don't ask everyone to do your work for you. If you haven't figured out that most "strains" are only a marketing ploy than you haven't figured out much about mushrooms.

I think his point was, if you HAVE read it, why not pass on what you gathered. But he hasn't, and neither have I and you don't need to either. No one wants to agree on the issue and no one is doing the chemistry tests to find out one way or the other.
UTSF posts are just as frivolous as the original question. Its my experience that people who can drop knowledge usually enjoy doing so.
[Edit, god damn that escalated quickly]

You would learn so much if you read all the pages in the strain thread. I read the first 385 pages of the AMU Q&A and I learned so much. You gotta put a little effort into seeking your answers.
