Thanks for the help, hope these pictures are better, they getting pretty dry though. The spore print looks pretty good but can't tell if it has purple due to colour blindness! Went for another hunt today and found lots of lookalikes which didn't bruise blue.

Hey All,

5th trip out today for this season, i'm pretty new still, only started last year.

i thought i'd find more given the high rainfall we've been having, but am wondering if the frost in the hills has inhibited their growth- not just subs but all mushies were pretty scarce. checked 3 different places in the hills.

found 8 definite subs across 2 different spots, all very old and quite dry surprisingly.

the reason i'm posting is i found a patch of what seem like subs. pine needle habitat- pic attached. however, the caps are a lot darker than what i've found in the past and the stem is thicker too. but they are bruising blue and do look similar to a lot of pictures of subs i've found. i'll put in an id request as well, but thought you all would have a pretty good idea too.

thanks =)

Hey guys,

This is my first season, and I'm loving it so far despite my meager finds. At least until this weekend when I somehow stumbled upon 100+ subs up in the Adelaide Hills (ID Thread). Needless to say I was pretty happy, and managed to get a few nice photos along the way too.

Good luck all, and enjoy.

Long time lurker I never posted cos had nothing interesting to say. Just like Kapitan Kato and many others here I walked high and lo but found buggerall until today. Well I found 4 subs in June in a place where I saw someone else walking around seemingly without any purpose  and nothing else since. Today I was seriously in a giving up for this year mood walking back to the car when I spotted some mushrooms growing in a kind of trashy hopeless place. I think this ground up north seen some fire maybe a year or 2 ago, not this year, and has since been replanted with pine trees. I didn't expect to find there anything at all and wasn't even looking around much. So I stepped off road risking to slide in the mud so abundant there to check out the little island of life among dead branches and stumps. I was sure this happy family of mushrooms couldn't possibly be subs for so many were there in one small area not at all like on photos in this thread... I was wrong!

You've done well if that's where I think it is, I had to look for a long time before I found anything (around) there. Nice to know they are up there in big numbers now, I will have to go back pronto!

In more recent times, since the advent of the internet, we have amazing resources like this site, so it's far more available to people to find accurate information (identification, names of species etc.), but you only need to look at this forum at threads from 2007 or so to see people unsure of proper species names and an overall small volume of collected & readily available information contained in pages & threads. Even mycologically, there's still so much unknown about so many species of mushrooms, including, for example, the synonymy of P. tasmaniana/australiana/eucalypta/subaeruginosa. Essentially, I guess I just find it cool that it's one of the few things around where information is still traded mouth-to-mouth through friends and groups of people so much in an age of unlimited information - I know young dudes now who have hunted/eaten without knowing the species name, just a slang term, and through someone else teaching them.

There are lots of old c^nts like you (and me) on here lol. We had no idea what we were doing BITD. We knew what they looked like (from some other older c^nt) but not how to process them properly, in fact I'm surprised we tripped at all.

Nailed it Freakofnature. The genus is Drocera not sure about species. I haven't got any books on carnivorous plants and i wouldn't trust google with an id. They are super cool, and native. I love how shroomery attracts people interested in learning about the environment. I struggle with mycology and really appreciate the coaching we all get from ericos, olive, z240 and anyone else on here with an interest in taxonomy, and trippin we all love to trip.

Since I have been out hunting again I've exercised a lot of long forgotten skills and hobbies and interests, it's been fantastic. A few subs along the way have been a nice bonus to my adventures!

Kitchen scales showed 12 grams so I thought a trial level 2-3 trip would be fine. But it was freaking solid 4 or maybe even 5 for a short time. Guys, don't underestimate subs like I did. I am now kind of scared to try them again. I definitely will but I need some time to digest what I've been through last night and I need to catch up on how to do it properly and prepare well next time. The only high for me before was from weed and that was nowhere near what I've just been through. I can't even compare weed high with subs. Mushrooms is the whole different world and they are orders of magnitude more intense.

And yes, this calculator mentioned above is crap, or maybe the subs I found are extremely potent.. I don't know, I'm kinda lost and confused right now and am still a bit high 16 hours after. I'll be back with more photos in about a week, and maybe will even post a trip report in the Level 4 section.

I'm looking forward to your trip report! Fuck kitchen scales,
I bought some jewellery scales from Cashies for $20 they are brand new Precision brand and measure to 0.01g (I think they have them all the time). So glad I did...

I took 310mg, I felt like I had just got home from a rave, woke up with a bit of a hangover.

I found a few books in a vast library I have access to. I wanted to know if anyone has experience with these or can recommend a book or two that would be helpful in the field. Fungi Map and Toadstools and mushrooms of SA seem to be the pick of what I have found so far. A lot of the books we have are more related to fungal decay in trees. Fungi Map seems very easy to navigate around but lacking in information. At the other end of the spectrum T. and A. of SA seems to be very technical has few photos and is generally and hard to use. It does mention a lot of Psilocybe species in SA and where they were spotted, what year etc. but it doesn't mention if they are active or not.

300mg seems like a super low dose are you micro dosing or is this something you prefer? I,ve always found 3g dry to be my magic number. I'm sure it has a lot to do with my drying methods and shit but it works for me. I've never done anything low dose and am interested.

some fine action happening  :smile::mushroomgrow:

very glad you found some NBYK, have been meaning to msg man.

i reckon we need more pics from Pineninja - guy knows some classy spots.:thumbup:

am rootn for you E-Bob, am hoping they are P.Alutacea and that they are the first recorded finds for SA - this would be wonderful.
has a sample been bio assayed as yet to test their active?

i ate a few fresh sub caps for the first time in 3 years the other day whilst hunting in the cold n wet, they warmed me up
as I've not tripped for a while i believe i can attest to the fact that different patches do contain different levels of Psilocin at least in my experience.
at certain places if i pick a few kilos wet i start to get a little buz on, this cuts through the stoned i mostly am and little waves and rushes are felt.
after eating the small caps 1 every hour, total - 4, i felt the same rushes i get picking lots, though stronger and a little more intense.
so maybe I'm absorbing Psilocin through the skin whilst harvesting......

when i was le trippa de hardcore i found eating the fresh mushrooms that grew in the dry cold, no matter the substrate, that had blue staining on them were the strongest.:mushroomgrow::fonda:

I found these today in Carey Gully, growing in some composted horse poop, just wondering what kind they are?!

Thanks!

Be careful if you are out there tomorrow...

IDS65503
Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
South Australia Regional Office
TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for DAMAGING WINDS

For people in the Lower Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East and parts of the Mount Lofty Ranges and Yorke Peninsula districts.

Issued at 4:01 pm Tuesday, 21 July 2015.

A front in the Bight is expected to move across southern districts, reaching Eyre Peninsula this evening and the South East early Wednesday morning.

Strong north to northwesterly winds are occurring ahead of the front. These winds are forecast to increase and become more squally across southern coastal areas late this afternoon and tonight as the front approaches.

Winds may become locally damaging, briefly averaging 50-65 km/h with gusts of 90-100 km/h in parts of the warning area, particularly near the coast and over higher ground.

Winds will decrease after the front has passed through.

Locations which may be affected include Port Lincoln, Kingscote, Edithburgh, Victor Harbor, Meadows and Mount Gambier.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

The next warning is due to be issued by 7:05 pm.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 215. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Olive the micro dose was essential so I knew the love was real before I started spreading it. Also wanted to check if there were pain relieving properties, unfortunately there were none T+3hrs and I was asleep. MAYBE wasn't hurting as much when I woke up but that could have been the 'hangover' I felt (don't drink btw). Just billies before n during. I don't think micro dose was worth the hangover tbh.

I'm just being super careful with dosing (probably a good idea). Will do a 'proper' trip sometime in the future, according to the calculator 500mg should be enough to get me going, 3g would probably fuck me over hardcore lol. So many factors though, I was tired, how long to veg caps take to dissolve in ur stomach? Does smoking weed before / during effect it? Experiment inconclusive.

Maybe re-dosing is the key; Get tripping then if your OK take more. Sounds ok in theory, anyone done this?

Yeh pineninja, looking forward to his pics!!

Olive:
I thought I saw somebody following me.

NYBK:
Micro dosing correctly can be a very fine line, and surprisingly tricky to get right. Not enough can just make you feel weird, to much....well you know, but if you get it right Mwah.
It can be difficult to tell when the effects of a shroom trip have plateaued, if you get it wrong(easy enough whilst tripping) be ready to get heavy. Generally speaking it is at least an hour or two sometimes more, If you do decide to re-dose it potentially adds an extra 3 4 5 hours onto your trip, and is something to keep in mind.
One thing that micro dosing has given you is a marker on which to base your next dosage, personally I like to choose my dosage and consume it all at once, It gives me a sense of malleable reliability.
Having said all this some of the best trips I have had are as a result of re-dosing just be aware.:bigblunt:

BB:
Quite a few of those still look ok! let em go, and the buggered ones will still do the job:crazy2:.

And pics next time I am out:blush:, still finding a few around and know a few more spots that should still be producing, especially because of the weather.  Good luck to all as the final bend looms.

Hi guys,

I found an article which discusses the acute psychological and physiological effects of psilocybin. The article lists a few quantities e.g. "medium" = 215ug/kg and "high dose" = 315ug/kg, I was just wondering if there is a simple way to quantify the amount of psilocybin in our subs so we can get an accurate dose.

I think this is the question we are all seeking the magic answer to, as others have said different areas could very well be different strengths. I gave a friend 4g of the same I had they said they got a mild level 1 off 2g. More of a drug fan than me though, so maybe that affected things, who knows . Without a lab I don't reckon this would be possible.

Cheers pineninja! You are spot on I have a good baseline now. Next time I'll try 500mg and see how I go then if I can maybe same again in 2 hours? I'm OK for shit to get heavy but I want full control on my way there, if you know what I mean lol. Maybe no billies after I take it too. As much as I smoke I still feel stoned.

Olive when I was cutting them up I started to feel a bit weird, I put this down to nothing but now you mention while your picking you get a buzz? maybe you're onto something, care to try Jimmy Hendrix style in the headband with some freshies and let us know how it goes?

you gotta get a pic of that and a trip report pineninja!

Got out today, foggy morning.

some inactives on the way in..

And just a few subs today..

I'm not sure about these darker cool looking ones, was growing next to the normal looking ones..

doing spore prints on the whole lot now so will be interesting, maybe they are ancient ones  .

I left this guy hiding..

Had to look really hard today, walked through one area three times before I was about to give up and then they came into view. I saw some weird stuff out there today..

Cool fun, cold, wet loved it. Some habitat shots..

Hope all you hunts are fruitful :scaryshroom:

Def wait for spore prints, but those dark ones look like subs. If you check my last post in EBs different phenotype thread and there are some examples.

Jesus Bananabob, that log is insane..wish I could stumble upon that simply for photographic purposes!

The spots I found last time contained very few subs in total (less than 4 lol) but given they were in a valley I chose to walk further up it. This was problematic as there were blackberry bushes farking everywhere...literally a dense wall of them about 1km long lining both sides of the valley, was absolutely ridiculous (perhaps this is the reason noone seems to know about this spot)....so I followed the ridgeline trying to find a way down...and it was here along the ridgelines with the pines that I found the best subs.

You can see here I'm up the hill quite a bit...with stringybark woodland across the valley...bracken fern blanketing the valley and this pine with pins everywhere underneath it.

The subs in this particular spot were quite white and some had blue stained gills which I had never really seen before.
Pins from the spot.

How nice does this one look!

Other subs I found randomly over the place. As you'll notice the majority of finds were near or within pine forest...I did find native trees with subs underneath...one right at the very top of the ridge...last time I had visited the tree, there were what I had suspected to be very dry subs under it...turns out they were as fresh ones had come up.
This pair under the aforementioned tree.

Other sub pictures.

Habitat shots...funnily enough I only took pine forest ones..but where each of these photos were taken I had found subs.

Overall a very enjoyable hike indeed, beautiful scenery in that part of the hills!
Here was the haul.

Unfortunately my macro lens is out of action atm and my standard zoom can't focus nowhere near as close so I couldn't really get any real nice shots of any..hopefully it's fixed before the season is over.
