OP should not be consenting to any searches or talking to any cops.

I feel so bad for the guy if he literally did nothing but push the sale through to get the guys the fuck out of there. The one I worked at in New England.. we had blue laws.. so people would be banging on the door at 9:01 and would throw rocks or empty bottles or shake the doors nearly off to try and get in. Alcoholics can be as dangerous as any other addict, if not more so.

OP man you're fucked at least a little bit you sold to an VA is a commonwealth state you can expect a misdemeanor charge not sure if VA has an ARD program but you're looking at 24 hours to 6 months in jail, plus being partially liable if not fully liable for the dammages they did. of course this is worst case scenario and it is not an election year. But you will surely have a 500 to 1000$ fine Your company already provided you with training on who to serve and not. So they are off the hook. And don't expect them to back you. You may get it dropped to a summary offence being a first time offender.

I thought CT's laws sucked when I signed up for that gig, but appears VA is worse. Ouch.
My employer never gave me training since I was assistant manager in a high traffic "adult book store" for 2 years and we had state cops breathing down our necks.
I almost got hit once at the liquor store; this one girl all of 15 years old threw a library card looking thing on the counter and I look her in the eye and I just told her "I'm sorry, but you're downright bad at this and I know what it is. Do not come back unless you're accompanied by a parent or guardian buying their personal liquor" and shut my register. She came back a few days later and a coworker sold to her for her phone number and got fined/warned.
I do understand the hastiness of ferrying certain people out the door.. alcoholics sometimes lose their ever-loving minds. One woman would come in Monday through Friday at 7:59 to raid our nipper cooler at the strike of 8am to get to work.
Our shipment had come in late because of some taxes being wrong on it; we didn't have her nippers and she lost it. It was so sad seeing such a beautiful woman caught up in addiction and occasional bruises on her face and drinking the day away. I found out a year later she came in trashed, bought her dozen nippers and died when pulling out of the parking lot. Got hit dead on by an ambulance of all things.

Really man? So you think that I was partly responsible for what THEY did? They could have got someone to buy them the beer and were already drunk when they entered the store...

The one thing my boss ever *truly* got on us about carding was "You never know what happens to that 20 1/2 year old when they leave the store. If they get alcohol poisoning and end up dying this is out of my hands and you're dealing with an arrest, not fines". He might have stressed it because we hired on 3 greenhorns, and it might not even be true, but it was enough for me to triple check identification sometimes or just straight refuse the sale because I wasn't 100%. They'd leave pissed and cussing and trying to break shit, but I wasn't going to put myself in a position over a job that lasted all of two summers and some holidays..
But I digress, sorry to thread jack, but there are some members here who are quite young or underage and need to be aware of this stuff. The Lottery laws and fines were a fuckload more strict.

No. Why would they have to tell the truth? what a silly assumption.
So you're saying that the corporate employees from my work are wrong?

Undercover operations are built on lying. That is the whole point. To trick you,
Did they also tell you if you ask if they are a cop, they have to tell you?

I don't think the company's lawyers and corporate employees would teach that to every single employee if they hadn't looked into it. It's a multi-million dollar company - they might just know what they are talking about.

It's a legal obligation. I'm not saying the cops follow it.

Honestly just think about it for a second. If an undercover cop loses his powers if you ask them if they are old enough to drink, you would never have to card anyone again. You just ask everyone that question and you will never get busted in a sting.

You would get busted if they were actually underage...that's the point of the sting.

Why? They would say "no" and you wouldn't sell them alcohol.
