Do I really need to make a mushroom print?
    #21974030 - 07/21/15 02:02 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Hi. I have successfully been growing shrooms from the PF Tek method for a while now. I want to start making my own spore syringes to save me a bit of money.

My questions is, do I really need to make a spore print first and then transfer the spores to the syringe? It seems like an unnecessary step to me.

My Idea is just to place a mushroom over a small sterile container full of sterile water, inside a sterile glove box, and let the spores just fall in. Then I quickly remove the shroom, cover the container with a foil lid, shake it, then suck the spore solution out with the syringe to inoculate my next batch.

I am i being quite naive that this might work.

It might just be case of 'if it aint broke don't fix it'. the spore print works so id just stick to that. But i don't know shit so do whatever.

1/4 to 1/8th of a spore print would typically be used in a syringe.  That print was made over 12 to 24 hours.  It'd take 1.5 to 6 hours of holding the mushroom over water to get that spore volume.

It would also be harder to tell if/how much the mushroom was sporulating.  You'd need a piece of screen or skewer to hold the mushroom.  If pieces of substrate/mush/dirt fell off it, you couldn't go around it or remove it.

The best print you can take is on steamed/pc'd foil, taken from an invitro grow only opened in an airbox

see sterile spore printing

Otherwise the ziplock bag tek is probably the cleanest and easiest if you don't have an airbox.

Standard steamed foil prints, done in a sanitized container opened in still air conditions as breifly as possible should do fine, though I suggest you make the syringe in an airbox.

Using muda's LI tek with the blender half-pint from a good clone would be way better than a sterile print and only slightly more work.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.
Triggered yet?

Just make a syringe like everyone else.

1/5 of a print, or even 1/10 of a print is enough for a syringe.

Just drop the mushroom cap in a shallow empty jar...close it...wait 24 hours...remove cap...add water...shake...suck into syringe.

O you could just use foil straight off the roll and achieve the same results:shrug:

Foil is sterile off the roll. Don't make things more complicated than they need to be.

This is what I do. I have one jar with a SHIP and that's it. I take a syringe flame the tip suck up water shoot into jar, repeat with how ever many syringes you wanna make( I do five per print), and your done.

I'd just quit the syringe nonsense altogether and get into some g2g transfers. You have some experience now. Go for it.

Isn't there a risk of getting contamination from the mushroom cap? Should I use a glove box for this procedure?

Is there a problem if there are too many spores in the syringe?

All caps have a risk of contamination. They are fruited and opened up in open air after all. I seriously recommend getting into agar and LI.

Agar is fun and well worth learning.

not much point in doing agar for pf-tek IMO.
spore syringes -> pf-tek works.

your suggestion works in theory shoegaze, but I wouldnt have the mushroom cap touching the jar,
try to suspend it,
and I wouldnt use that much spores in a syringe. 1 medium sized cube print easily makes 50 syringes.
more spores = more contam spores = bigger risk of fail.
less spores = still way more spores than needed, but way less contam spores = success :cookiemonster:

The only problem with too many spores in a syringe is the fact you'll be working with a lot more genetics, which is a bad thing

Your point? Everyone knows you don't need much.

I've yet to see someone make 100 syringes from a print. But you're right, that would still be enough.

I have a steel mesh to put on the jar so the shroom isn't touching it and the spores fall into the jar through it. I've also made a glove box to help keep contaminations out.

I figured if i put 100ml sterile water in the jar and shake it up with the spores in it, I can fill up 5 20ml syringes and just keep them in the fridge to inoculate the next 5 batches of 12 jars.

Is it still a silly idea or am I going to have to go down the spore print route? I'm just trying to keep things simple and cheap.

You should just get enough for 1 syringe and squirt it into like a litre of sterile water. Have a SHIP and draw shit ton of syringes, or just draw them when needed.

Or just print it into 1L of water  lol..
