FAE = Fresh Air Exchange

I don't see enough holes in your fruiting chamber. Are you using a shotgun fruiting chamber? If not then look up the tek for it and make one. Otherwise you are not getting enough FAE.

Trim down the aluminum foil so you just have enough for the cakes to sit on.

Put the cakes closer together. About 2-3 inches apart. They create their own nice little micro-climate when they are closer to each other.

It usually takes anywhere from 7 - 14 days before you start seeing the first pins. Be patient.

:whathesaid: nowhere did you say anything about misting OP. I can't enlarge the pic, but they look like they could get misted. Keep them shimmering/glistening with no pooling water. Mist when they aren't shimmering until they are shimmering. Mist the perlite once a day too.

Also please tell me it's a sgfc, and elevated at least 6 inches off the ground

It is not a shotgun fruiting chamber, just a generic plastic box I punched a few holes in, but I will get to making more and more holes immediately.

Going to get a spray bottle to mist with as soon as the dollar store is open as well.

My mistake too, I had it on the floor :S beginner's mistake? haha

Thank you very much for the advice.

Read this!

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20195542

If you read it thoroughly, you'll see that it's supposed to have holes on the bottom so air going underneath will push humidity up through the perlite. Perlite is pretty much useless in any other chamber. Just something to keep in mind.

Hmm.. it looks like I'm behind on my knowledge. I didn't know much about this "shotgun chamber" method and I didn't think it was necessary.

I had watched this video multiple times:

Is it outdated?

Hi,

I just wanted to help you by giving you this tek that I'm currently following which is working out great for me. Lots of useful information. Take a look, I'm sure it'll answer some of your questions.

Thanks. I am reading as much as I can remember.

I don't have a drill so I stupidly used a screwdriver to stab these small holes. At least they are on the bottom now.

It got the job done but took a lot of force to drive it through the plastic. Try a nail.

They were rolled, most of it is on the sides. Also, the mycelium colonized a lot of it.

Congrats OP. I hope you enjoy the fruits of your labor!

BTW, a powerful lamp is not required. A few hours of ambient sunlight everyday is more than enough.

A 12/12 light schedule works best if you want a good pin set. And make sure the lamp isn't too close to the plastic bin. You want it hovering over the top. :super:

The lamp creates enough heat to create the kind of air current that the SGFC is designed to function with, no?

And yeah, it's hovering over the top. I have it right next to the window now too, so it's getting some sunlight, though today it's pretty cool and cloudy.

The lamp is to provide enough daylight-spectrum light for your mushrooms if they do not have access to ambient sunlight during the daytime. You need a bulb in the 6500K range. Mushrooms need sunlight to grow properly just like almost all other living things.

IMO, even the sunlight on a cloudy day far surpasses any light from an artificial source. My fruiting chambers just sit in a room with the curtain and blinds open every day and they receive about 8 - 12 hours of ambient sunlight per day. I've never had problems with weak pinsets.  :amanita2:

Shotgun chambers do not require any air current. In fact, they do better in a room with little to no air current. The water on the perlite slowly evaporates and rises into the chamber. This evaporation causes more fresh air to be sucked up through the holes covering the perlite. This causes a constant slow-moving flow of air throughout your chamber which forces out the CO2 expelled by the mushrooms and draws in more oxygen. A heavy air current in the room will disrupt this flow and nullify the effects of the shotgun chamber.

The pinsets below are from nothing but natural ambient sunlight.

So, here's what I have below. One of the cakes has not fruited at all yet but I shall remain patient. I'm keeping it near the windows with fresh air and light coming from the outside. It's hot and humid as hell right now, and I'm keeping the case from going dry. Any idea why it would be late to start pinning?

How long has in been in the SGFC? It may take up to 5 days or more from birthing to see some pins. Remember, environmental conditons/genetics plays a big role. Also, make sure you don't have the tub too close to the wall, you want airflow on all sides.

Check, check, check...

I might just give it another dunk when the other cakes are done with their flushes.

Picked this monster last week. It weighed to 2g when it was fully dried.

So, I decided to have some fun and take 240mg of DXM, and a couple of hours into that, I ate it raw.

I gotta say, it's a great combo! DXM helps keep the anxiety at bay while also amplifying the visuals quite a bit.

Definitely one of the best and most positive trips I've had in a while.

Anyway, I've birthed 4 more jars and they are knotting like crazy. I'm thinking they will yield quite a bit more than my first batch.
