Large growth on colonizing PF Cakes. (Photos)
    #21972132 - 07/20/15 06:23 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

So searching the forums and Google I came across a picture of a colonizing PF jar. The PF jar with brf and Verm 2:1:1 inoculated with whatever strain of cubensis has a odd growth on it. I have searched and searched and have not came up with anything that can help to identify if this healthy growth or not( I know it is not normal). Not only that, I would just like to know what this might be out of curiosity.

It started out as the fastest colonizing jar the guy was growing, but started to develop this large pure white knot in the colonization of the jar. Once the "knot" began to press against the glass it started to tear apart as you see in these pictures. Where is it dark is where the large growth on the colonizing cake has hit the jar. No other jars out of 12 have this type of growth.

Anyone have any idea as to what this could be? I believe it to be mycellium growth of some sort. If it were me I believe I would toss it, but would still like to know what it might be.

Yea, it was pure white growth until it grew enough to press against the jar for acouple days. Then It started touching the glass and grew a crack in the middle of large button like growth. The crack looks extremely dense and looks like mushroom tissue for comparison.

I found a closer pic.

It was commented on that this puerto rican strain has been colonizing for about 3 1/2 - 4 weeks. Maybe 70% complete.

Looks like "not cubensis" :nerd:

Maybe a slime mold. I would be tempted to say raging bacteria except that shit would surely reek by now.

I guess it has micro pore tape over the holes on the lid, and there isn't a noticeable smell. I don't think it will be even opened, just tossed out.

How would someone safely smell a jar? I would imagine  people would be weary of the smelling of unidentified molds, fungus, etc.

Just pc or steam it for an hour and then empty. Don't throw away a good jar.
