Beautiful reishi find
    #21971767 - 07/20/15 05:19 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I went on my usual foray today, mostly in search of any species of ganoderma, and was very pleased to find some very pretty specimens! I've been fascinated with ganoderma as of recently after discovering their many medicinal qualities. Namely cancer killing and anti tumor qualities, both of which I'm dealing with at the moment. I did some research and discovered that the popular mushroom grows in the woods in my very own back yard. My boyfriend introduced me to the mushroom originally and thus the fascination and research began. I now keep as much of it on hand as possible, slicing it up when it is fresh and drying it. I make a tea from it, enough to last a few days, and drink a glass twice a day, once in the morning, once at night. It took me a while to start to feel a difference, but after a week or so I started to feel better than I have in years! The taste is an acquired one, but not bad, slightly bitter at first but very much worth it! It is a great thing to add to your daily regimen to help fight off any unseen things in your body. So many cancers are popping up everywhere and there is a potential cure, if not preventive, that grows! No man made chemicals that make you sick or weak or cause your hair to fall out! I find a lot of good ones but these in particular were very pretty to me, and decent sized! I just had to share them!

Nice finds, you've got some Ganoderma curtisii there which from what I understand is our closest relative in the US to G. lucidum. There are a couple ways to get around the taste that I know of. One is by grinding  them up and putting them in capsules and the other is making a tincture from them.

Sorry to hear about the cancer, I can only hope that the reishi will help you get healthy again. Best wishes.

Thank you! I considered grinding them and putting them in capsules, but they are such a tough species compared to others that I'm worried that they may tear up my grinder. I didn't think of making a tincture though. I may try that! As for the cancer, this is my second go around, so I at least know what to expect. I only wish I had discovered it years ago to prevent the initial cancer, or to at least be able to prevent it from coming back. I'm a tough chick, though, and I have reishi on my side now! :-)

Top and bottom appear to be G.curtisii, the center one looks like stipitate G.sessile.

G.curtisii is the closest relative to the Asian Reishi species, previously called G.lucidum, but is now understood to be a separate species, G.lingzhi. Oddly enough the closest relative to G.lucidum in the US is actually G.tsugae. G.sessile is in the G.resinaceum complex and should bleed a yellow resin when damaged.

Wow! I love this forum! I always learn much more from you guys than what I can look up and read anywhere else! Thank you! I always appreciate extra knowledge! So I've been picking more than one species of ganoderma all this time and didn't know it.
