A Shroomery version of 'reddit gold'? 2

Just a brainstorm I had... On reddit you can buy credits and gift them to people for posts of theirs you enjoyed. It unlocks certain features for that member for a month or something. I've never gotten it because reddit seems to hate me, but perhaps an admin could implement something here that's similar to get more revenue. I was thinking little shrooms instead of gold. Depending on the value/cost of each credit, you could make it so 4 (or however many) shrooms you get equals a month or whatever of supporter status. In essence, it'd be like a mega +1. Those who have extra cash could choose to spend it here, those that don't can just continue along like always.
Also, you could assign a value to them and they could be used as credits towards a purchase at the store, if the person would rather do that instead of get a supporter account.
Not sure if it'd work here or not, but perhaps couldn't hurt to try. (I'm unsure whether this site turns a profit or not)

Sounds like a pretty good idea, honestly.
I would definitely participate in it when I have extra cash.
It's kind of like a popularity contest, which is kind of lame, but it benefits both the users and the staff though

Pretty much what I was thinking, but I thought the benefits to the site would outweigh any negative aspects of it. Popularity contest or whatever.
It may give people incentive to post quality shit and improve the community (given, I'm not one to talk).
I'd imagine the coding or whatever required would be a bitch and may not be worth the effort, but figured I'd throw it out there.

I definitely think the pros outweigh that con.

That's definitely a possibility. I'd probably be more apt to post informative content if there were added incentives.

Yeah, I'm sure it will take a somewhat significant amount of time/effort from the staff to implement, but the added revenue as well as the increased functionality of the site would be worth it, IMO
Although there's always the possibility that it could flop too, and all of the time and effort from the staff could end up being for nothing.
If that's a concern of the staff though they could always make a global sticky for it before they put too much work into it, maybe with a poll included so they can more easily gauge how much of the community would utilize the feature, so they know if implementing it will be worth it. A sticky would also drum up some interest in it as well.

I assume you've read my replies and OP here?
It's a way to get nice things to people here without spending $10 on them at a pop. Sure some people are nice enough to buy supporter accounts for folks, but that's fairly seldom. This would be like 1/4 the cost of that and people who would more willing to "shroom" a post and then that user when they've been shroomed enough, could either get their own supporter account with their shrooms or put it towards that Shroomery hoodie they've been eyeing up.

never assume i have read anything usually i don't read everything.
i have now though. people buy supporter accounts for each other as it is, but that doesn't usually have a directive or specific purpose other than to support the site and give the poster a little extra. so i kind of see where your idea is a little innovative.

It'd just be cheaper than directly buying them a supporter account... For instance. Each shroom would cost $2.50 and you could buy 10 to have on hand for when you see a post you like. ($25)... When the member gets 4 shrooms, they're able to use their shrooms for a $10 account for a month or a store discount or whatever.
I just think if it was possible to implement, the pros would be fairly big and the cons would be minimal.
