Recrudescence
    #21970334 - 07/20/15 11:42 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

i had a stroke in 2013. last Wednesday i was laying in the ER almost certain i had another one. turns out it was just a recrudescence of the original stroke symptoms. apparently thats just a fancy word basically meaning the symptoms of the stroke came back without there actually being a new stroke. im just happy it wasnt ALL the symptoms, just a really severe case of vertigo. i can barely walk and its going to take at least a few weeks to heal so ive been catching up on some well deserved shroomery reading. ive neglected this site for a while now and i missed you guys!

so my question after that long read is has anyone ever experienced or heard of such a thing? old symptoms coming back?

I think you are getting no replies because nobody has ever heard of that before.  I hadn't and I have an awesome vocabulary and a pretty extensive knowledge of medical shit for someone not in the field.

It's a new one on me too, but now I know. See, Zap? Even old farts like us can learn a thing or two from the young 'uns.

hey your not alone. this is the first time ive ever heard of that either. at first it made me question the neurologist and wonder if they just wanted me out of the hospital because they dont know whats wrong. i have no clue but i google recrudescence and its not a term specific to strokes but illness in general.

"Recrudescence is the revival of material or behavior that had previously been stabilized, settled, or diminished. In medicine, it is the recurrence of symptoms in a patient whose blood stream infection has previously been at such a low level as not to be clinically demonstrable or cause symptoms, or the reappearance of a disease after it has been quiescent. For example, a clinical attack after parasites in the blood have dropped markedly and the disease has subsided"

if you google this with stroke patients it turns up very little.

Cool. This is the first time I heard the word and the idea. Apparently it's not just doctor talk for 'fuck off because we don't know'. I'm having trouble finding much info on it with strokes, though here's a mention in a google book that might give you some more stuff to search:

https://books.google.com/books?id=si1Bm6bJhhQC&pg=PA1068-IA18&lpg=PA1068-IA18&dq=recrudescence+of+stroke+symptoms&source=bl&ots=OHm3MP17Zw&sig=6UbrBoe2GdptOgJd0ZTNpl1pznM&hl=en&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0CEoQ6AEwB2oVChMI5qjYmebqxgIVhBOSCh2eOQhq#v=onepage&q=recrudescence%20of%20stroke%20symptoms&f=false

Thank you. I hadn't heard any new words from zappa in a while, and I was starting to worry that he was becoming senile. This will keep him going for a while longer.

Seriously though, this was a cool thing to learn a bit about. I had no idea it was a thing.

It's not a panic attack. It a reoccurrence of the stroke symptoms without a reoccurrence of the actual stroke. A panic attack is it's own thing. Apparently Recrudescence happens with infections and the immune system too.

Yep.  That's where I learned it from.  It's a real word.  I means a cavilling critic.  Another word I learned was cavil.  It is akin to nitpicking.  Momur can best be defined as FUCKING BITCH!

Oh man, Cavil is a great word. I can probably find a place to use it too. I've been patiently waiting for a good opportunity to use the word palaver (I learned that one from you), and I'm confident the world won't disappoint on that one. I've also been waiting for years for a good time to use the word hobohemia, but I still trust that our economic policies will give me the chance before I die.

The hobohemias of yesteryear are being turned into the hipster haunts of today.  But there will always be new hobohemias.  They just move around

No I never heard of that either. In 2012 I got really sick and starting vomiting and dry heaving and tore an artery in my neck. I felt really dizzy next day and noticed I couldn't feel hot or cold on my right side. They told me I had a stroke, kind of scary.  Mostly recovered but felt a little dizzy from lack of water and heat a few weeks ago an almost shit my pants. Symptoms of stroke are not as obvious as you would think. It's better to go to hospital if you you even suspect stroke they can help if you get in soon enough.
And you can get lucky and fucking score like you just did and find out its not another one. You did just score man, big time

agreed. i was very relieved to find out it wasnt another stroke because it felt just like the first stroke just not as intense.
