Is this a mutant or contam?

Hello everyone... first a thank you to the members of this forum. I've been lurking for quite some time now and I have learned a lot. My first attempt at a pf tek seems to be going well. I couldn't have got this far without ya!
I have followed the tek exactly with gt, as written and I have several cakes fruiting their first flush. One cake in particular is growing some sort of unusual looking growth while the other cakes are pinning and fruiting as expected. I've searched the internet far and wide for photos of something similar and have found nothing. At first I thought maybe dry bubble but dont feel that is the case.
the first photo is to show i have fruiting cakes and the unusual cake. Four were placed in the chamber about a week ago, and the ones on the left placed three days ago.
the second photo is a close up of the unusual growth. You cant see in the photo but there are a few pins on this cake too, but way less than the others. The light blueing on the big piece is from me touching it.
the third photo is a similar looking growth coming from another cake.
there is no unusual odor so I dont think it is contam but as i am very unexperienced I am unsure. I had no contams in any of my 12 jars. The odd thing is that the cake doing the growth looked the best of the jars and colonized the most quickly. It still took about 5 weeks and i left them to consolidate for 6 days.
so what do y'all think? could it be a delicious mutant or is there something else going on?
much gratitude -silvestre

thanks for the quick replies... obviously mutant is what i'm hoping for.
how do i know when to harvest them? should i just wait for the pins to grow and harvest blobs with the fruit when the veil breaks?

Harvest the regular pins as they are mature. I harvest blobs after i see no appreciable growth for 48 or more hours....Just me.

You would be smart to wait for the opinion of a TrustedCultivator or another contributor as the pins/blobs continue to grow. That is just what I do and I can't say I have this hobby perfected by a long shot.
Good Luck to you.

Not a mutant. Colonies fighting off contamination will often throw out deformed masses or blobs, or rosecombes depending on the contam. IMO most of the things people call "mutants" are really better classified as deformities. I have seen many people attempt to clone those things, only to have normal fruits pop up after. Mutations are things like conjoined fruits, rust or red spores, tentacles, pigmentation. Rosecombe and blobs are either symptoms of contamination or poor conditions. The exception of course is PE blobs, which still will usually have something that resembles a cap and gills.
I consider these to be mutations as they are repeatable through cloning or printing the line. . .

OP your blobs look a lot like the "Dry Bubble" that verticilium is famous for. That is actually why Verticilium was called dry bubble for many years.

Thank you pastywhyte... thank you clearing up the terminology. I assume I should toss the cake but figured its worth asking if i should quarantine it and let it fruit?
all good steverodgers i value everyone's input!
