CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) — Police say two men have been arrested after they were found to be running a large-scale hallucinogenic mushroom lab operation out of their Concord, New Hampshire apartment.
Officers were called to a Thorndike Street home on Monday to investigate an anonymous tip they received through the Concord Regional Crimeline. The tipster also alleged that the men were involved with illegal drug activity in the presence of young children.
Police say a neighbor told them they smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from a first floor apartment, and also noted that there is a lot of traffic coming to and from the building. Officers also learned that the children, ages 4 and 8, were away for the week.
Investigators were able to get statements confirming that there is a high volume of traffic and that children live in the apartment where psilocybin mushrooms may be manufactured.
On Tuesday, Concord police executed a search warrant at the home. Detectives allegedly found a large pot of dark liquid on the stove, a large industrial-style barrel containing liquid on the kitchen table, bags of soil for growing mushrooms, a container of grain and large sifting screens in the kitchen.
Police say they found multiple boxes of laboratory equipment including glassware, growing lights and other laboratory equipment, as well as several containers with mushrooms and soil in the basement.
In a bedroom, police say they found a large rack with 24 trays of soil and what appeared to be mushrooms, several plastic containers that had been altered for growing mushrooms and large plastic containers holding dried mushrooms.
The basement was being used to cultivate mushrooms, police said, and the interior of the apartment appeared to be set up for the production of the hallucinogen mushrooms over a long period of time.
Police contacted the Drug Enforcement Agency’s New England Regional Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team based on what they allegedly found in the apartment. The DEA determined that there was a significant mushroom lab at that location.
The building had to be evacuated until all the items were removed from the apartment.
Authorities continued their search on Wednesday. Once the search warrant was completed, the city’s Department of Code Enforcement deemed the apartment to be in a livable condition.
Derek Milioto, 32, and Luke Robinson, 23, both of Concord, turned themselves in to police on Thursday and were arrested.
Milioto was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a felony count of possession and manufacturing controlled drugs and a misdemeanor count of possession of controlled drugs.
Robinson was charged with a felony count of possession and manufacturing controlled drugs and a misdemeanor count of possession of controlled drugs.
Milioto was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail, while Robinson was held on $2,000 cash bail.
They will be arraigned in Concord District Court on Friday.

Police: Illegal mushrooms grown in ‘large-scale clandestine laboratory’ on Thorndike Street
By NICK REID
Monitor staff Friday, July 17, 2015 (Published in print: Saturday, July 18, 2015)
Two men who were growing and distributing hallucinogenic mushrooms in a “large-scale clandestine laboratory” on Thorndike Street were arrested Thursday after police raided the home on Tuesday.
Concord police Lt. Tim O’Malley said his department immediately called in the Drug Enforcement Agency after it realized the magnitude of the operation.
“They didn’t know what they were going to find – obviously they’d established probable cause that there was going to be drugs in there – but when they get in there they were immediately overwhelmed by the scope of this,” O’Malley said.
Agents in protective suits followed, removing growing equipment and ensuring the two-story apartment building was safe of hazardous materials, such as the mold spores associated with the fungus-growing process that could pose a health hazard if inhaled.
Derek Miliota, 32, is the father of 4- and 8-year-old children who live at the 19 Thorndike St. home, O’Malley said. He was charged with two misdemeanors for endangering the welfare of a child, and a felony for manufacturing and possessing illegal mushrooms.
O’Malley said the children – who were away this week – would have had “direct access” to the drugs and related equipment, which was throughout the apartment.
Luke Robinson, 23, also lived at the house and was charged with the same felony, as well as a misdemeanor for possession of a small amount of marijuana found in his room, O’Malley said.
DEA agents spent nearly 12 hours removing hazardous materials from the apartment, O’Malley said, noting that police recommended that neighbors in the building’s second apartment get checked out by a doctor.
The investigation began with an anonymous tip, and police found witnesses who said they’d seen a “high volume of pedestrian traffic into and out of the apartment.”
Once inside with a search warrant, police found paraphernalia for growing everywhere: pots of liquid on the stove and kitchen table, soil and sifting screens in the kitchen, a rack with two dozen trays of soil and several containers designed specifically for growing mushrooms in a bedroom, large plastic containers that contained dried mushrooms.
“The basement appeared to be set up for the cultivation of mushrooms on a significant scale,” O’Malley said. “Overall, the interior of the apartment appeared to be set up for the production of psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms over a long period of time.”
After his arraignment Friday, Milioto was ordered held on $1,000 cash only bail for his felony charge and $1,000 personal recognizance for each misdemeanor, O’Malley said. He is also disallowed from contacting his children.
Robinson was held on $1,000 cash only bail for his felony charge and $1,000 personal recognizance for his misdemeanor.
Neither is allowed to contact the other, and both are required to be supervised by Merrimack County Pre-Trial Services if they’re released, O’Malley said.
“This is an ongoing investigation, and additional charges and/or arrests may be forthcoming,” O’Malley said.
The 19 Thorndike St. property, valued at $179,000, is owned by Miliota, according to city assessing records.

Could you imagine a new story like this.
" Two men charge for growing tomatoes which could be thrown as rotten tomatoes"
Police along with the assistance of a swat team and a whole team from the poison control centre pounced on an unsuspecting tomato farmer for the alleged crime of growing tomatoes.
Please theorize that the two men where caught red handed while slicing a tomato who which they claim was being added to a vegetable salad.
Please theorize that the tomatoes would be used by terrorist to throw at law makers during public demonstrations in response to the police and decision makers creating absolutely stupid laws.

I understand the absurdity of this, however, this could happen to anyone here reading this. Be careful. Shut up.

This is why we can't have nice things.

What would be the reason for that, and why do sheeple let LE do this?

I would imagine the fear is explosives put in place to destroy evidence. Not likely since they were living there.

Well, whenever I see a mushroom grower get busted, I always wonder if they are on the shroomery.
But honestly I don't know how something like this is endangering a child unless they are like "here have some mushrooms". I mean people who have microbreweries or tons of alcohol laying around don't get in trouble if they have kids in the house.

It's from the second article. But really, evacuating a whole apartment because of the possibility of mold spores. If these guys were successfully growing this many mushrooms, I doubt there's gonna be dangerous amounts of mold spores that would harm A WHOLE BUILDING.

5000 bail and 2000 isn't that bad, some of these stories the guy has like 50 grand bail. Police like to wear hazmat suits and freak out the neighbors. They call the media to get the pictures of them and all their equipment that make it look like they saved neighborhood from exploding "lab". I wouldn't want to go to prison for growing something you didn't make any money from, they are going to prison for this shit. Something to think about. Tell no one if you are doing it

Mycotoxicosis, mold allergies, and even regular mold spores can have a horrible impact on your health. It can be deadly. I don't blame them for wearing hazmat. You don't know walking into a grow house if they're sterile and efficient growers (apparently they were) or people with potentially deadly contams. I understand it's on the far end of the spectrum of possibilities, but nonetheless the risk exists. I can agree they can take it to a whole new level of overkill, but as I said, you've no idea what you're walking into. I don't care how much I'm being paid or how much my bosses have to shell out, I'm not dying for a few pounds of mushrooms. They should be legal and regulated like the more harmful drugs doctors sign off for. They should be used for end of life comfort and a plethora of other reasons (e.g., the surprising amount of people who kill themselves over cluster headaches).
Many shroomy vibes to these guys, even if they got too big or cocky or snitched on. I can only hope for the best for fellow psychonaughts. Never shit where you eat, tho.. I wouldn't even smoke weed where I grew, if I ever grew anything but gourmet.

NHDTF does not like competition.
I have a T shirt from a NHDTF training/exercise that has some very creepy graphics on it, I found it at Good Will.
I have also seen a NHDTF detective has his name on a tshirt that his raider team wears. on the back of the shirt it read "Harvesters of sorrows."
What an asshole. I made this same detective cry, the day he took me down.

...as fathers get drunk as fuck, beat their wife and kids, suck money from the government and kill people on the road. But mushrooms? God forbid.
It's like with weed... Dad smokes a joint and the kid wants pancakes for dinner and watch cartoons all night. Suddenly Dad is up for it.

I've read enough horror stories and accidents people have had here with mold, bacteria and mycotoxicosis, even posts that don't exist on this server anymore or have expired, in the twelve more years I've been here than you two.
It happens. You might be more likely to get hit by lightning while getting attacked by a shark, but don't pretend for one second it's not a possibility. That's the pile of bullshit right there.

Here's what 60 seconds of using the search engine pulled up.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21569196
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/3454667
But that's just fear mongering bullshit that anybody will eat up, right? Propaganda because mold never killed anyone and mycotoxicosis doesn't exist.
Here's something you should read before you even bother replying.
http://www.ehagroup.com/mold-iaq-services/toxic-mold/
From Wikipedia of all things:
Quote:
Molds (also spelled "moulds") are ubiquitous in the biosphere, and mold spores are a common component of household and workplace dust. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in its June 2006 report, 'Mold Prevention Strategies and Possible Health Effects in the Aftermath of Hurricanes and Major Floods,' that "excessive exposure to mold-contaminated materials can cause adverse health effects in susceptible persons regardless of the type of mold or the extent of contamination."[1] When mold spores are present in abnormally high quantities, they can present especially hazardous health risks to humans, including allergic reactions or poisoning by mycotoxins,[2] or causing fungal infection (mycosis).
And mycosis doesn't happen either it must be conspiracy and I drank the fear mongering koolaid.
