Psilocybe, maybe Cyanscens.
    #2196583 - 12/22/03 10:29 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Alright, so I found these in wood chips. The caps were viscid and some were very blue to a bruising reaction, they are even more bruised after being in my pocket. The gills on some are dark purple brown color from spore deposits, and on some that are fresher are a tannish whitish color. When I first saw them I thought they were cyans, yet as I got home the caps that werent completely bruised blue were white. Spore prints are coming out purplely. I am a little confused, I think I did find my first psilocybe, just not sure what one. Do cyans caps go white after drying a little or something? A few days ago I also found galerinas within 50 feet of the place that I found these. Here are the pictures they are of bad quality(little light) and none are of habitat. Any help would be groovy, and if they are some goodies I would like to thank all the people like mj who post great pictures and resources.

By the way these were found on dark wood chips. I have heard that darker wood chips are generally the wrong kind of wood for cyans. Just a thought that popped in.

looks alot like cyans to me. does it have a real tough stem. all the evil look-alikes around here have stems that are way weaker than cyans. the caps of cyans do turn to a lighter color with age and drying. better wait for more replys though, Ive only been hunting cyans for about a week now..

Yes, I would say they have relatively tough stems, but they are very small specimens.

Defenantly cyans! The 4th pic reminds of my very first cyans that i found. I was 17 and just getting into mushrooms and was reading everything i could on them. Tried growing some cubes and that went well. Read about azures and cyans and how cyans grew everywhere is san francisco. I was living 30 east of sacramento and never thought i would find cyans growing in the sierra foothills. I was mowing the lawn in the fall and noticed a cluster of shrooms growing nevet to a azalea i had planted the syear before. i was so stoked. I picked them, took prints, and dried them. I never did eat them becasue teh color was light on the caps with very little bluing. The print was purple, the cap was wavy. They were cyans just didnt know and NEVER would have thought that they would bless my front planter box but they did. 100% sure they came in with the azaleas from the nursery. PLanted a sucessful azure patch under those same azaleas th next summer and got about 2 oz's of azures the next fall. Brought pics and specimens of the azures to the san francisco mycology societies fungus fair that fall and gained instant respect with the members and senior mycologist that were there and also the guest speaker, Paul Stamets!
Didnt mean to share the life story but i have been drinking!
Nice find!!!

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.
