Hi there I Have been trying to grow out some golden blocks but there are just not fully colonizing. I saw that Paul recommends 15 to 20 percent i think I did about 5 a half a quart jar per large spawn bag. This has been fine for my kings and Phenix. Has this been a problem for others what are your spawn rates?

I think i did mine at almost 30-35% really overdoing it, but my flushes were great, plentiful and beautiful oysters so i think a little over supplementing is good for the golden ones.

Usually they would fruit before full colonization with me. I used a pretty low spawn rate about 7%.

Sorry for dumb question but this ratios that you talk about are volumetric and not weight, right?

I use about 1 lb spawn for 5 lb block. Pull off about 1/2 lb in the first flush I don't know if this is a great yield, but these mushrooms are pretty dainty and light. Gorgeous though. They were quick though. From inoculation to harvest was 15 days. Wowzers.

I have very little success with yellows below 7.5% - 8% SR (Wet/wet weight) - this is more than double what I use for others. Works OK though:

Wow that's a lot of spawn almost doesn't seem economical to grow? but we shall see maybe I will be able to cut back on wheat bran or something. I will try doing a full quart jar which is a dry 200 grams to a wet 3 pound block hopefully that will get them there! Current bags have been growing for 20 days and still seem to be increasing just very slow. So there maybe hope! Have any one had success with upping the supplementation rate and not the spawn? Or is it more to do with some sort of expansion issue? Thanks for the help!

Where is your culture from? Or do you buy grain spawn?

I've noticed on your guys awesome pics that the mycelium doesn't seem to be as thick as say kings or the phenix? But it's plenty thick on my grain so I'm not sure if that's true have any of you made this observation here's my block.
