Liquid Culture Experiments

Hello,
So I am posting this here because I cannot seem to post in the sub forum of agar and liquid cultures. Not complaining, simply explaining
So I have done some experiments with Reishi LC I procured from one of our vendors.
1. I used the water from a 18 hour wheat grain soak and strained it through coffee filters to remove any residue. I added nothing to it and PC'd at 15psi for 90 minutes in a 1/2 pint jar. After it cooled I scraped small amounts of mycelium from one a petri dish (MDA) and dropped it into the jar. I shelved it and waited.
Result:

The mycelium grew thick across the top of the liquid and also fairly well into the liquid as well.
I have not yet inoculated anything with this liquid but will follow up with results when I do.
2. Same method as above but with the addition of karo syrup to water at 50:1 and a very small amount of gypsum (I eyeballed it so maybe a gram or 2, not very precise I know).
Result:

As you can see the mycelium grew in this liquid like gang busters.
I made 2 of these jars and used one of them to inoculate a pint jar of wheat grain.
Result (7 days post inoculation):

I did not take a picture but that LC really took off in that grain fast. 24 hours after I inoculated it had began to spread from any of the grain it had touched.
I will not say anything as to the correctness of the methods I used because these are simply experiments I am doing to gauge results however, I am confident that grain jar will do well on substrate and grow Reishi.
Admittedly these results are no great accomplishment because from what I have read Reishi mycelium is tough as nails and can withstand a lot of abuse. But then again if growing Reishi is my goal with these experiments well so far so good. Of course if I cannot get it to pin and then grow nice healthy mushrooms well.... well that is a good lesson as well.
Thoughts?

were you using anything to break up the mycelial mat at the top of the lc? like a stir bar or stir plate?
growth looks good. keep it updated.

I put a small stone in the bottom of each jar. It broke up the mycelium in the first jar pretty well. Of course the first one I used did not have the matting like that jar. I still had problems with the needle clogging up because the largest gauge I have is 18. I am ordering some bigger needles for LC purposes soon. Eventually I will get a magnetic stir plate and bars though.
