So I got the opportunity to light up for the very first time last night, and I have to say, it was fucking mind blowing!!!
I'm still pretty new to this whole thing, so its not the greatest or anything, but I had a fuck ton of fun, so I figured I would share the video.
When all was said and done I couldn't stop shaking for like an hour.

I was expecting to see a video of you smoking weed for the first time by the description lol.
What you're doing in that video (is there a specific name besides lighting up?) looks pretty damn awesome, man. Reminds me of this amazing Polynesian show I once saw where the guys came out with dual ended torches like you have there, but smaller and one in each hand and did all sorts of cool maneuvers with them.
What got you into doing this?

I was expecting to see maybe a first time smoking DMT video since I really don't think there is anyway someone is a member of this site and hasn't smoked weed.

What I'm doing is just called quite creatively... fire spinning :-p Specifically fire staff spinning. I was trying to figure out a way to word the title. It's also called "burning" but I figured the way I worded it was more fun.

Similar to poi? -which is also cool.
"Poi refers to both a style of performing art and the equipment used for engaging in poi performance. As a performance art, poi involves swinging tethered weights through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns."
Thanks for sharing.

I remember when I first registered and only used to post in TPE I met an older member that had never tried smoking.
It was a woman (wish I could remember her username) in her mid 40's that came in here just to learn a bit about growing gourmet mushrooms, had never smoked weed, or any drugs for that matter and eventually ended up doing a little PF tek to treat her really severe cluster headaches.
Heartwarming story, isn't it? I wonder what happened to her...

Right on. Since I was a young child I always had an infatuation with fire. Maybe even a bit of pyromaniac tendencies, but anyways, dancing/playing with fire has always deeply intrigued me but I haven't had the balls to give it a shot yet.
Did you get started with this through Dystopia Rising? I was checking out the chapter here in FL and I just wish it wasn't on the opposite side of the state. After seeing your pictures and reading the descriptions online of how it's played, I would love to get into something like that.

It has similarities to poi. They are both flow arts. And many of the moves are similar. But there are things you can do with poi that you can't with staff. And vice versa.

Nah. I got started learning this completely independent of DR. I'm doubtful that a performance like this would even be allowed at a DR event for liability and insurance reasons.
I'd always loved fire spinning. Tried for about 6 or 7 months to learn poi. But if just never really clicked for me. Picked up staff back in Jan as a way to distract myself from smoking during my last attempt to quit.
It worked well for about 3 months. I eventually started smoking again, but I just kept spinning.
This was actually the second attempt at lighting up that night. Not only was this my virgin burn, but I was also using virgin wicks (a new, never been used fire prop) and on top of it, it's a prop I made myself. So problems happened the first attempt at lighting (the protective tape was too close to the wicks and ended up catching fire and coming loose. So had to put it out and do a quick re-design before trying again.)
