    #21959549 - 07/18/15 07:53 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

This just was birthed And I didn't notice anything while birthing or inside the jars. I really wish I knew how to spot trich in the jar if that is what this is. Thanks for the help

No. Bruising. Probably from over handling it/rough handling. Also there's a pin forming. Looks overall great. Looks like it could get misted again tho. Verm around it should look darker and more moist

awesome thank you.. I was refreshing this constantly because I removed it from my SGFC. And yes its dry i just woke up so its been about 9 hours without being misted.

What are tell tale signs of trich for someone who has only done 3 different grows on BRF cakes.

Trich has a sandy/powdery/granular look. It's very distinct looking from mycelium. Bruising just looks like blue/green mycelium. Best way I can describe it. Go look at some pics of trich, you'll see what I mean by the granular look.

Yeah I looked a alot because I had an outbreak on my second flush of my first grow. Looked like this

Just thought this was maybe the beginning of it and I caught it early.

You probably could have caught that cake earlier, but it's seriously not the end of the world. I've seen some horrific trich pics. I'd say that one is relatively early. Hell I've had more trich than that over the last 3 weeks (tho it was 3rd+ flush) however all my first flushes are going strong.

Overall trich is bad, but contrary to popular belief, it isn't the end of the world. Making sure I had 100% clean spawn really increased the results unbelievably.

In your case it'd be 100% clean cakes. I'd definitely recommend trying an LI tek

Yeah I have 6 spawn jars growing right now, it will be my first monotub grow. I just dont want to have an issue with contam. After that trich issue on my first grow I bleached the entire room and scrubbed everything, i havent had an issue since, until now which thankfully is nothing. And that trich was on the second flush.

If you haven't done agar, I'd 110% recommend trying it. You can do every trick in the book, but until you start with 100% clean inoculant, you're just going to chase your tail all day long trying to stop contaminations. Click the improve your sterile techniques in my signature.

It even says in the first paragraph this is meant for people with contamination problems, and this is what I did to get rid of ALMOST all my contams. I admit there's stuff to work on on every step, but the place to start ALWAYS when working with contaminations, is the inoculant. Truth is you can't EVER trust spores. Almost every syringe I've tested on agar had some sort of contam in it. Pf tek just is really lenient and might not show the contam until say flush 2. On agar it'll show itself quick af, and if you get clean mycelium, you can cut it out and away from the contam to get a clean culture.

Cover it in sterile water and blend or just shake and draw into a syringe, and you'll have inoculant for pf tek that's 100% sterile.
