I had about a month to grow them, made some mistakes, here's how it looks now.

Well... Like a real noob would do, I kinda panicked due to not having a lot of time, so the minute I got my syringe, I rushed out to the store to buy the gear with the intention of actually setting them to grow the same day while following the PF Tek.
My mistakes made: 1) I bought some random brown rice, and tried grinding my own flour, I ended up with a mixed mess of half ground rice and rice powder (as can be seen in the pic) 2) my environment was not that well sterilized. 3) I sterilized the jars in a simple pot for 90 minutes, though the pot had a steam escape valve, and I doubt that any useful pressure was achieved. 4) since I wanted to inoculate them the same day, I left the pot to cool for only about an hour, then I put the pot in the sink filled with cold water for another hour ( in total 2 hours for cooling). And them proceeded with the inoculation.
and today is day 4, and I just don't know what to expect, but I do have a picture of how it looks now.
Should I be prepared for disappointment? I'm afraid that the sterilization was a failure, and as soon as I see ~20% colonization, I'll start seeing green everywhere. Even though I have to do this while under stress and pressure, growing is fun, and I'll at least learn from this first grow to not rush!

So at this point it would appear you have two choices.
1. Start more jars following the tek to the tee
2. Watch and wait to see what happens. You already have some growth.

Sadly I do not have enough time to start more jars, since I'm leaving the country on ~Augusts 15th Lets just pray for the 3 jars that are showing at least something! I'll post more pics in a few hours of the other jars

Ok then don't worry about it. You can't unring that bell. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Lets see what happens.....By the way is that micropore tape that you put holes in to inoculate through the verm barrier? What is the situation with your lids there?

1: should be fine, just grind them longer. its what I used to do 2: no environment is ever sterile. the contents of your jars are tho and thats what matters. 3: pot with steam escape or pot with hole in the lid?
your jar lids look fucked, www.mushroomvideos.com thats how you do them I dont think your jars can breathe?

That was a pot with a hole in the lid, yes. Also the jar lids I have are the absolutely only ones in my country that I can get, and I think they breathe through the 4 inoculation holes? is that not sufficient? As people in a different thread stated, the mycelium actually looks very healthy and is spreading rapidly, at this rate I would end the cycle in about 9 days more. I do like the "mason?" jar lids wayyy better, sadly I've never seen one in my life, the only jar lids we have here are these metal one piece screw on's that were propogated while we were being held captive by Soviet Russia.

Do not worry, i also grind my brown rise, and had small pieces of rice more or less like you and no problems, our little friends can grow in more adverse situations then lot of people can think, just be patient.
