Cannabis could help heal broken bones according to new research

The class B drug has previously been credited for soothing the symptoms of Parkinson’s and cancer and could enhance the healing process in bone fractues

Benefits: The non-hallucinatory component of the drug quickened the healing of bones in rats

Cannabis could help heal broken bones, according to new research.

The class B drug has previously been credited for soothing the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and cancer.

It was used as a treatment by people from all around the world for centuries, but fell out of favour in the 1930s due to a growing awareness of drug addiction.

Now scientists have found that the drug enhances the healing process in bone fractures and could even help combat painful osteoporosis.

Researchers gave cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD), the non-hallucinatory component of the drug, to rats with fractures.

Within eight weeks, they observed that the drug had significantly enhanced the healing process.

In earlier research, the team discovered that cannabinoid receptors within our bodies stimulated bone formation and inhibited bone loss. Even the skeleton itself is regulated by cannabinoids.

They claim this suggests cannabinoid drugs could be used to combat bone-related diseases such as osteoporosis which affects around three million people in Britain.

Study author Doctor Yankel Gabet, of Tel Aviv University in Israel, said: “We found that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralisation of bone tissue.

“After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future.

“While there is still a lot of work to be done to develop appropriate therapies, it is clear that it is possible to detach a clinical therapy objective from the psychoactivity of cannabis.

“CBD, the principal agent in our study, is primarily anti-inflammatory and has no psychoactivity.”

Dr Gabet added: “We only respond to cannabis because we are built with intrinsic compounds and receptors that can also be activated by compounds in the cannabis plant.

“The clinical potential of cannabinoid-related compounds is simply undeniable at this point.”

The findings were published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research

Saw this article recently after getting a nasty tic bite. I hope it's not Lyme disease. I've been taking CBD oil as well as some rather nasty antibiotics and the oil really has melted my pains away. It was bad. If I stood up from sitting down I'd be hunched over and all my joints felt "rusty" and muscles ached and were stiff. The Mirror is one of the major papers in the UK, quite left wing (always pro labour) so to see these sorts of articles becoming more and more prevalent it makes me optimistic that the law will change (as it has to) over consumption, possession and cultivation of cannabis.

Cannabis helps my Parkie feel good, but she often forgets to take her levodopa, and then that is a bummer.

I don't wish Parkinson's on my worst enemy.

Damn dude, I hope you're ok soon. I just read an article on RT last night about Lyme disease increasing in the midwest, and north east of the USA. Just make sure you're taking probiotics, at least 80 billion count, because antibiotics are destroying all the good bacteria in body, which puts a halt to your digestive abilities, thus decreasing your immune system, as nutrients are not being digested completely, to even get absorbed. If you have are not already taking Apple cider vinegar, I would suggest that you do so.. the Bragg brand is the best out there. Oil of oregano, Nascent iodine, and Shilajit will also help you, and get you back on your feet in no time. All the chemicals in the air, water, and food, are slowing down your healing process. Good luck!

yeah my course of antibiotics is over now. I've noticed my dandruff getting worse. I've been eating yoghurt and I'm going to be getting some beetroot pickle which I prefer to sauerkraut. Anything besides yoghurt and pickle I can eat for beneficial bacteria? I've been taking tangy tangerine as well. My legs used to ache, I do a physically demanding job, and now I can do six hour shifts and still walk and run after.

I recommend taking this for adding beneficial bacteria: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/renew-life-ultimate-flora-critical-colon-80-billion-30-capsules/rw-1060#.VayEt0WMXGU

You can find those probiotics locally at whole foods, or in your local vitamin stores. Yogurt does not have that many cultures to help support someone who just had their antibiotics destroy most, if not all of the beneficial bacteria, you had before hand. But yogurt is better than nothing. I also recommended the Apple Cider Vinegar, as that will clean your liver as well, and get those residual antibiotics out of your system. Various fermented foods are a big help too. The beyond tangy tangerine, that you're presently taking is amazing stuff!

For the dandruff, I'd suggest using virgin coconut oil, and/or aloevera, if you wish to stay away from any of the chemical/non organic stuff. Whole foods (not that I advocate for them, as they are not the best store), does have a variety of items to find.
