looks good to me. What kind of wood do you plan on building your box out of?

Your hepa filter is pretty thick. From what I read around you want it somewhere around 6"

I personally have a 6" depth filter but I have read that you can use the 12" depth one also. I think the problem is that you have to build a bigger box which increases the cost to build one which maybe what makes the thicker filters inferior to the thinner.

wood cost might increas a little i suppose... but i can get the filter for 70$... thats a steal compared to other prices...
so it would be a little bigger but way cheaper right ?
also why would it matter if its 6" or 12" ? i dont think that would have any affect other than it being bigger...
still considering all factors its only going to be 2 feet deep. 1 ft for the filter and 1 foot for the box space.
what do you guys think ?

I have been reading around so I can't say I know much, but I read that thicker filters have lower static pressure and that they are mostly used for cleaning rooms and that thinner ones, around 6" are more suitable. Im just sharing and learning, can't tell you more than this

Whenever you have a link to provide, I would be intersted in reading it. If what your saying is more logical and there is proof behind it, I will gladly agree with you. I never want to be the source of bad info.

Quote:
Most 12" thick filters have lower resistance and are for clean room use. Flow hood filters have higher resistance so they can build static pressure behind them to ensure laminar flow. They're also usually in the 5" to 7" thickness range. RR

If rr said it, I guess it must be true. If anyone else made such a bold statement I would have to ask for evidence to back up those claims but since rr has never been wrong before we must except his sermens as gospel.

Do you think the info I provided is not true? Do you want me to collect around all the credible sources and present them to you in a more appropriate form?

Nah. I'm just busting your chops. I don't know whether the statement is true or not. You don't have to do dig any deeper than you want to on the subject, I was just being a smart ass. If op wants to make sure they are buying the right materials, it is that cultivators job to do the leg work and make the best decision based on a collection of knowledge that they should have accumulated through extensive research on the subject at hand.

so if that filter is too big to build a successful flow hood will this 24" x 12" x 5.8 filter work with the same blower ?

The math is 1' × 2' × 100 cfm per foot + 20% for pre filter = 240 cfm
Am I missing something?

with a 12 inch filter would a powerful enough blower fix the resistance problem? or must it be 5-6 inches wide?
