White film on the caps of new mushrooms

This is my first grow and so far I think it's coming pretty good, but I noticed that my mushrooms are forming this white film on their heads. It rubs off easily if I touch it but it comes back later on. I also have the fuzzy feet on my biggest mushrooms and I'm aware that that's due to poor FAE but what about the film? I couldn't really build a proper SGFC, since I don't have the space for that big so i used a smaller one with the same principle, holes on all sides except I have 2 in of perlite instead of 5. I think it's sufficient thou because it feels pretty humid in there. I can post some pics later if needed.

When you say "rubs off" do you mean it is powdery?
Do you only have 2in. of perlite because of the size of the container or because you didn't want to buy more perlite?
A picture is worth more words than you could fit on this screen. Please post one.

Because of the size, right now if the cakes are vertical it's almost reaching the top. I'm not even sure what I'm going to do if they decide to grow straight up. Here are some pics. I just wiped off the cheese about an hour ago so it's in the process of coming back. The last one is what tub looks like.

Are there really holes on all 6 sides of that box every 2" apart?
The mushrooms look ok to me. I would be more concerned about the setup they are fruiting in. Why don't you have space for a slightly larger box so they can grow properly instead of on their side in 2in. of perlite? Are you having to hide it?
Post a pick when the "cheese" comes back. Please.

It's not that I have to hide it it's just that a proper box is huge. I can squeeze it in but my room is really small and it would be taking up 1/3 of my empty floor space. There's also a factor that I only have 3 cakes and that it'll cost me a lot more. I do have hole on all sides, althought they might be like 3 in apart since I had to make them with a screw driver and it takes forever. But I make up for it by fanning it more frequently.
The mushrooms do look very healthy otherwise and smell wonderful so I'm not too worried about it, but I was wondering if it's a sign of too much/too little humidity or FAE or something else. I'm trying to learn as much as possible right now. The film looks pretty much like it does in the picture except that it covers the whole mushroom. I've been reading that mycelium can grow on the the mushroom itself if there's not enough FAE so I was wondering if that's what they meant.
edit: I put them on the side because I figured that the closer they are to moisture the better. Also it looks like they're resting on straight perlite but I actually have a piece of foil under them which I put some perlite on so that it still sits on slight moisture but no too much. I also put some perlite on top of the cakes so that it resaturates it from the top. It's not really in the tec, but some improvisation but it seems to be working wonderfully as they're gaining about 1 cm a day.

Does the box have holes 2in. apart on all six sides? Is the box elevated off the ground and away from walls at least 6in?
Putting them "closer to the moisture" is not what they need. They need humidity provided by an adequate amount of perlite and the holes on the bottom of the bin along with multiple fresh air exchanges per hour provided by the holes on the other 5 sides.
I was hoping others would jump in, but it's 3:09 am fuck it.

yea i know kinda late, thanks for answering, but no like I said I don't have any tools so I just used a screwdriver to poke holes in those thick ass walls, i did them about 3 in apart. My perlite is medium, I don't even think it comes in grades perlite is perlite. But humidity does help them grow better and since I can't put in more perlite I think they're better off on their sides. So I take it the film is just a natural part of growth?

Having "cheese" on the caps is not normal no. Can you just post a pic of that once it returns? If you are not going to modify your setup at all I don't know what we can do for ya other than just see what happens.
