Prestos work fine just take care of the seal and replace it when needed. i'd personally just get the biggest one possible and eventually youll likely be glad you did.
And then later on if you really want and are willing to spend the cash you can upgrade to an AA (all american).

Yupppppp. That was my first PC. still use it to this day. Works great.
Just make sure you have enough water when cooking, and watch about sliding it across hard surfaces because it may scratch the bottom.
Edit: actually my first PC was the 23qt presto. If a 16qt is all you can get, it'll work fine.

Then I would recommend looking else where. If you want to get serious then you should get a bigger one. Double in size at the very least.

I mean, bodhissata uses a PC that only cooks like 3-5 jars at a time LOL.
its the not the size of the PC that matters, but how you use it

If you pick up the hobby fast you may find yourself needing more PC space when doing bulk grows. Quart jars and spawn bags will fill up a PC easily.

This is the guy I'm talking about with the small ass PC. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showprofile.php?User=300678
A big ass 200-400 dollar Pc isn't necessary, but I agree it helps. If youre on a tight budget, your money would be spent better elsewhere.

I just scratched the CRAP put of my wooden kitchen table a couple days ago with mine... but it's my first PC as well and I love it.

I have a couple of the link op posted. unless they're mishandled they will last. Now that I've got a massive PC I still use the presto for those times when I have a few extra jars or for boiling water in for foomans wbs tek OR for boiling water for bucket tek'ing. One got broken cause I let someone handle it and then dropped the lid in the sink and bent it slightly, making the seal weak and fail at pressure. Now it's a $70 pot.

I have two 16qt prestos, I started off with just one. I can't stand trying to cram more than 1 cook into my schedule at a time which is why I ended up getting a second pc. I would rather spread my work out throughout the week. If I need to up my spawn production, I will go bigger. Fuck those all night cook sessions, I have done enough of those to last me a lifetime.

looks good for starting out. i got a similar one on clearance for 30 bucks at jc penny and it works great. only holds 7 jars tho so is more time consuming if u doing bulk. i just pc 7 at a time for about 1 1/2 hours, put those jars aside when done and start the next batch. then i wait 24 hours after the last batch and noc em all up at once.
happy growing!

The 23qt is taller and holds aother 3 qt jars which fit by laying them on there side on top of the 7 jars that sit up right where the 16qt only holds the 7 qt jars that stand up right.

I would suggest cooking for atleast 2 hours. I have seen a significant increase in success rate since upping my pc times from 90 minutes.

Got the 23qt Mirro for 65$. Has been fine thus far.
I saw a 16qt that held around 6 or 7 qt jars, while my 23qt only holds 9. Given how huge and awkward it is on my stove, I realize I didn't need it.
Being able to throw extra small jars or agar plates into the extra space is nice though. It's all kind of a wash.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

You should be able to lay 3 qt jars across the top of the standing 7 for 10 total. I dunno if that mirro has some part of the lid that obstructs the 10th jar, but I know the 23qt presto and 21.5 qt AA921 can fit 10 this way.

Believe me, I tried. Just won't quite get that 3rd jar up top. Maybe I should try narrow mouth quarts.
It will actually fit 3 of some plastic quarts up there. 8 of some plastic twisttop quarts total. Seems pretty legit since those things are fatties.
I just fill the space with agar/pint plastics/other culturing tools.

Narrow mouth qt jars are a little bit taller than the wide mouth. So if the standing 7 are narrow qts you will have even less space up top.

I meant just for the top shelf, and probably only one up there.
It seemed like a <- configuration was the closest, and the narrow mouth might be able to sneak between the thighs of there. If I recall the lid of the widemouth was catching on the shoulders of the other two widemouths.

I hate the effing WallyWorld PCs. Used mine and then returned it, claimed it wasn't sealing properly.
I bought a 'vintage' All American from eBay and I love it. Ugly big beast big I love the pressure gauge and metal-on-metal construction (no gasket).
