Coaxing mycelium to pin---Cased RGS
    #21956649 - 07/17/15 03:12 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Straight to the point->>

I've read that a cased container can be introduced to fruiting conditions at one of three stages: immediately after applying the casing layer, when the mycelium has just begun to poke through the casing, or when the mycelium has overtaken the casing; all according to preference.

I introduced 3 plastic containers of fully colonized RGS cased with a 50/50+ casing (Casing mixture was at field capacity when applied) to fruiting conditions inside a SGFC. I misted them the first day and fanned as usual. However I read that when you're trying to induce pinning you shouldn't be misting your casing layer, as the evaporation of the moisture from the casing layer is what causing the mycelium to form pins. The containers have been in the FC for about 4 days now and I have been abstaining from misting the casing while continuing to fan. The moisture on the casing still looks good and the mycelium is now poking through, beginning to overtake the casing.

What I'm wanting to know is if I really shouldn't be introducing any moisture at all to the casing right now. Also when should I begin misting/bottom watering ?

two ziploc round twistn'loc containers and one mini-round.

none of them look dried out just keep waiting. bottom water when the fruits start to grow. if you did it right there's plenty of moisture to get the pins started just maintain the moisture content while they grow. if the casing drys out mist it.

Thanks Bodhisatta, this is the second time you've helped me out. I'll maintain doing as I have and update when I have pins.
