Any chance this is mycelium?
    #21956575 - 07/17/15 02:57 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I'll cut to the chase: any chance this could be healthy mycelium?

I guess, based on the input, I'll do with the tub accordingly, but I know there's plenty of searchable information for that.
I just can't tell for sure if it's good or not, it seems denser than the polyfill-looking cobweb pics I've looked at, but too cottonball-looking to be mycelium.. I also can't smell much past the bitter coir smell, good or bad...

It's popcorn spawn, PC'ed and all, it had seemed legit while still in the jar (I had taken somebody's advice and shook a few at 100% to make sure they recovered quickly for other reasons).  Mixed in with coir 7 days ago.

The coir/verm tub, which itself has SGFC-like holes, was completely placed inside a large clear trash bag - did I suffocate my baby just a little too much?

Thanks in advance, as always.  Love the help I get, especially when it's contam-related and a search or 5 only help so much.

Did you only put a couple of small holes on the side of the tub or on all sides like a traditional SGFC. Monotubs aren't supposed to have much GE during the colonization phase.
Just put the lid on and let it do its thing. Also, there's no need to put it in a trash bag, there should be more than enough CO2 in the tub for fast colonization, just make sure to put micropore tape over any holes that you added. I don't see any visible contams yet, so you're doing good. Just let it colonize the bit of exposed coir in the middle, then fruit that bitch!!

Cool, thanks guys!  So quick haha I went down for a bowl...

It has 1/4" holes every 2". Was a SGFC I had used for cakes, the bottom quarter of the tubs filled in now though.

Phew I can breathe.

And seriously, without this interaction, I very much would have opted to be overly cautious and thrown it out. So I can't thank y'all enough

you need to tape holes during colonization.
you should fruit it iin a monotub. this way you need to mist a LOT.

So you ARE letting it colonize with a bunch of holes in it?  Because that's bad.  So maybe you shouldn't breathe just yet, and instead go read some more.

Oh yeah, I opened the bag because I couldn't get a good look, as much as I squinted through a hole.  Too lazy to tape up 6 dozen holes, which is why I'm using a clear trash liner.

spacechildo, it was your advice that led to a good flush using this same tub.. got a traditional monotub colonizing as well! =]

EDIT: the tub was placed in a liner a week ago, i had twisted the open end so it was as air-restricted as a plastic bag could get.. I have it a little looser now.

you should put the sub into the plastic when you spawn it.

what did I say that led you to fruitng a sub block in a sgfc?

Oh no, quite the opposite.  Just the same thing you mentioned, that a lot of misting will be involved.  Did end up grabbing another tub because of it, and it's got the 6-hole setup.

I left out a lot - the sub is in a black trash bag, which is taped along the inside.  I've used a clear liner in place of taping/stuffing holes, and I figured since an imperfect lid suffices for GE for most people, an almost-"shut" liner would do.
