Has anyone nailed down a decent way to use a coffee-based sub?

I went through Frank's attempts and a few more on the AMU board, but the propensity for trich is just turning me off to adding it to a pasteurized sub. Seems too risky, though I definitely see the difference in pins, size, and potency from those types of additives. Just wondering if anyone has nailed down a good way to use it with mostly success

faster colonization as it seems, also denser mycelium, at least my experience

Coffee BASED sub? No. Coffee as an additive? Definitely. I take 2 coffee grinder fulls of organic grounds and add them to my soak water using grains. A handful of gypsum as well (prepping a dozen qt jars).

I use worm castings for a nitrogen boost. Less risky and works great.

So you can see potency?

Alright. Guess I'm heading to the nursery and starbucks in a week or so. Frank's tek was a little unclear to me, i probably did read it wrong. Pasteurize together.
I'm thinking next time using frank's manure sub tek with 10% castings and 10% coffee. So I guess add 3.125q of each to the tek. Or just 20% castings. 6.25q. Hoping my calculations are correct
Edit: you can most definitely see potency. Eating those boomers allows you to see it :b

You can add spent coffee to your grains before you PC. Shits all colonized when you spawn, so no risk of contams this way.
Not a coffee based sub.. but a way to use coffee with no risk.

around 2008 everyone on these forums were growing off used coffee from starbucks.
but using coffee is a science. its real easy to fuck up. use it sparingly. if you pick up the coffee grounds wet, make sure you dry it immediately or pasteurize and spawn immediately. leaving it out wet will contam by days end.

Alright, so starting a new sub soon. I read CH Hell's additive thread, and he recommends 10-15% castings. Is this by weight or by volume? Dry or moist?

this is an old thread. but you have to use spent coffee grounds. also, coffee in general in high volumes is extremely hot and can cause issues. its better suited for the winter months.
this was the fad back then. everyone and their mother on this forum was using spent coffee. i would pick it up at starbux but at times, they would flake on me. you have to go at the right time. a few hours after the morning rush. also whole foods coffee shop will give it to you as well. last time i went, i picked up about 50lbs wet. which became about an entire trash bag full dry.
