Left over pins
    #21956003 - 07/17/15 12:48 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

So ive been picking clusters of oysters and there might be a couple of pins around the mature cluster and it seems after the cluster is picked there dead?

Yeah I would say they are likely aborts. Happens every time I get a flush of Oysters no matter if the grow parameters are perfect or not. It seems like the mass of mycelium starts a lot more mushrooms than it can sustain.

Definitely pick or cut those aborts off of the blocks. They'll begin to decompose otherwise and induce contamination of your precious blocks.

Usually I can tell what pins will be aborts right after the pins begin to get a bit larger. The stunted ones mostly abort but I just wait to get rid of them after the flush has matured and I've harvested it.
