I watched a 5 minute youtube video of her standup, and I got nothing out of it. If she weren't a pretty girl talking about sex, I would have quit pretending to listen to the jokes. She's lucky she's sexy looking because she only goes for the easy jokes that get chuckles from couch potatoes who are too tired to think. Her jokes have about as much thought put into them as those lame racist jokes bad comedians like mencia like to tell.

wow, you're right. It's just the nature of it all, just like all men have inherently rapey instincts that they must constantly suppress. It's just in their nature.
that aside,
One of the wittiest, sharpest writers in the industry is widely regarded to be Tina Fey.
Kate Mckinnon, Kristen Wiig, Chelsea Peretti, the ladies of Garfunkel and Oates, IMO Kaitlin Olsen of Always Sunny is easily one of the funniest actors on tv in general right now, Kristin Schall, June Raphael, Joan Rivers. They might not all do standup, a lot of them do, but if they don't then they're widely regarded as some of the best comedic actors in the business.

Don't forget a lot of comedic actors generally start out doing stand up, and have to make a name for themselves before people on tv give them a chance, some give up stand up and stick with tv and others stick with both.
A lot of people found them funny for them to get where they are, to paint with such a wide brush and say women can't be funny just because you didnt laugh is honestly quite retarded.

Louis ck isnt the prettiest, yet he's still at the top of the game.
"Amy Schumer isn't funny" "Yea and she's ugly"
Again....
Looking pretty gives you an easy advantage on TV. Talking about sex is the next easy bump. She does both of those things, and doesn't have much else to offer, so she doesn't need to be very funny or present much past that. She makes jokes with a sort of feminist perspective, but she embraces lots of sexist stereotypes with her jokes and general presentation. The comments you quoted are the kind that she attracts, and she seems to do nothing to bring them into the spot light so they can be laughed at like they should be. She's a weak comedian.

louis ck's running theme (or one of them) is pointing out his flaws, including his body, he turns a lack of celebrity sex appeal around into a joke and it's very successful.
Amy Shumar, who I don't think is ugly for the record - I think if most guys saw her walking down the street, they'd agree she's probably cute or at least not unattractive or ugly. Because she's a celebrity people nitpick, it's easy to dehumanize and objectify celebrities and we hold them to superhuman standards. I think that because she talks about sex so much and is very obviously confident about her ability to find sexual partners, it brings her under even more scrutiny than she'd normally have. Quote:

Yup. I've also noticed that standup is kind of like sports in the sense that if you watch it on tv(at least for me) it's less likely to really enthuse you compared to watching it in person. In person it's fun, everyone laughing around you is infectious and there's just a different sort of expectation that we hold when we see things on camera compared to real life - you get kind of desensitized.
That being said you're right, people are lining up to see Amy Shumar even if you or I don't like her. Standup is incredibly hard to break into and make a living doing, so I give her and anyone else who accomplishes that mad props.

It's my dream to do it myself, it's the only thing I care about really so I have extreme respect for anyone who made a name for themselves, even if I don't like their style of comedy myself.

It's only really in comedy that plainer-looking women get airtime, see SNL etc.
For whoever thinks this Amy Schumer is really funny, can we see some of her primo material? All I've really seen is that movie trailer and that other clip someone posted right after, and IMO both of those were pretty weak.

She isn't the best, but she is funny, I'll look around for some clips I like of her and post them soon, but she definitely has potential, just like Louis, Joan Rivers, George Carlin. They all started out doing WHATEVER would make people laugh, they didn't care if it was just shock value, or anything, they just did what they knew would work. Can I say that's what she is doing...no because I don't know her, but she is only 34 and made a big name for herself, she has a lot of potential to work on her act and become one of the best.
I mean louis was on tv redoing the same shit routine he used for 15 years, just because he knew that it would work, then switched it up to shock value, and worked his way up to what he is now. It's an art form and they have room to grow, and she definitely has potential.

This to a T, at an actual comedy show, the atmosphere, the crowd, is a totally different experience then watching it on tv, there's even a sort of mob mentality that allows you to get into the comedy more because you feel like you're almost participating. I won't judge comedians I didn't like if I've only watched them on tv unless they make me laugh really hard. The ones I don't like I'll still see in person if they come around because it's 100% different and even then if you don't like it, there is most likely going to be other comedians that night too.
Apart from that, Amy does almost exactly what Louie does, "look at how ridiculous me and my life is and especially my appearance and laugh at it" but somehow it's different when she does it. The amount of crude grotesque sex material I've seen louie do in person and in his specials and have yet to see anyone claim he sucks or he's cheap or weak comedy because he chooses to play off it like Amy does.

For some reason a lot of the clips got taken down, it's only like full shows but these were some from one of her specials I thought were really funny. I can't stand when they show the audience after a joke for some reason.

Idk what it is most female comedians miss the mark by a long shot. Idk what it is it seems like its them being really sexual or if its not that its jus them complaining the whole time about the stupidest crap. Off the top I cant even think of a single female comedian that ive heard lay down a soild set start to finish. Itd be truly awesome if we had a women that could stand among the comedic greats but ive never seen on come close

I think she throws the sex jokes in to try to get guys to buy into it.
