Looks ok to me.
-Next time pasteurize your casing material, don't sterilize it -Don't incubate it in a heated environment. Just let it sit at room temperature.

I dont see anything that immediately jumps out to say cobweb mold.
That bright white spot on the top just right of center is a bit concerning but is probably nothing.
Next time dont incubate and its best not to sterilize your casing layer (pasteurize instead).

Thanks! he'll make sure to pasteurize instead and also not incubate. Any thoughts on what the spot could be?

Trich or mold is bright white at first. If I could see it in person I would be able to tell, but from pictures its a bit harder to say for sure.

he? why do you care for someone else's grow? and he should know better than to tell you about it.
IDK what the other people think looks so good, that thick myc mat looks fucked to me. of course "you" can just have it hanging around until it either gets fruits or contams sporulate.

Forking isn't in the tek but i've seen posts about it helping with overlay (as a last resort of course). So basically you're saying it's overlay?

Just follow the TEK exactly for your first time.
Any TEK that has the words "overlay", "forking", "deep scratching", or "incubate" is outdated info.

The teks were followed except for sterilizing the casing rather than pasteurizing. Since you didn't say its mold or contam, I'm going to assume its overlay. Thanks!

I don't think he said he saw cubes overlay, but that he has seen overlay only a few times in his 40+ years...
He has said....

RogerRabbit said: Overlay is bullshit and most of it relates to a picture of a normal casing layer in TMC that is incorrectly labeled as overlay.
A few months ago, I 'jokingly' said I'd ban the next person who asked an overlay question and it worked . . .until now.
What happens is one person asks about overlay, and for the next six months, every new grower thinks he has overlay.
I can guarantee you don't have it, since I've only seen it a handful of times, and I've been known to have grown a few projects in my day. Full colonization of the casing layer is not overlay. Give lots of fresh air and light, while misting a few times daily and you'll fruit soon. RR

RogerRabbit said: I've seen overlay two or three times in 40 years, so I doubt seriously you are seeing it, especially on an uncased bulk substrate. It's common for new growers to mistake full colonization for overlay. RR

RogerRabbit said: Uncased bulk substrates should be left alone and covered until 100% colonized. Overlay is a vastly misunderstood phenomena which only affects species such as agaricus(button mushrooms) which require a casing layer.
Whatever you do don't deep scratch. That's a failed method which was disproved 30 years ago. RR
