re-hydrating shrooms?
    #21954233 - 07/16/15 11:04 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

so theres a quarter oz of some fire cubes that are starting to re-hydrate. they arent cracker dry, theyre pliable, the stems bend and dont break, they're in a bag with a good desiccant packet in a mason jar. if it doesnt get any worse then they'll be fine and wont get moldy but what should i do?

Go buy yourself some calcium chloride (Damp Rid) and those puppies will be cracker dry by morning.

I've read you put the shrooms elevated above the calcium chloride. Like you have a rag and the calcium chloride in the bottom of a bowl and have a little rack with shrooms above it. I've never tried it that's just what I read in a thread on here. So if it's incorrect don't shoot the messenger.

Make a sachet out of cheesecloth or a paper towel. You can tape or suspend it from the top/side of the jar. Or just put said lining in between the desiccant on the bottom and your mushrooms.

Put in a dehydrator. Everyone who is a serious grower uses electric dehydrators to dry

Yes initially that is ideal. His were already dried and apparently absorbing atmospheric moisture.

will they get any worse seeing as theyre with a pretty decent moisture packet? i dont think it will be a problem if it stays the same

The important thing is that they are CRACKER DRY. How you achieve that at this point is up to you, but you want to make sure the largest specimen you have snaps at the stem when bent.

ok, so why? its really not bad, and i doubt it would even be noticed by anyone else. its not like theyre soaking wet. im just asking if the somewhat large desiccant packet will be enough to maintain the current level of moisture which i dont think will be a problem?

It has nothing to do with being noticed by other people. It's not a texture or edibility issue. Drying them preserves them potency wise and prevents them from molding.
