Been making music to deal with my anxiety * 2
    #21949764 - 07/15/15 10:57 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Been a long pull here the last few weeks, in and out of the doctors offices and Emergency rooms because I convinced myself this viral infection I had was a brain tumour or some fucked up thing, when all it is is just a bit of a headache.

Anyways, I've been on some anti anxiety meds, lorazapam and setraline, we'll see how they work out in the mean time.

But for now, I've been  playing around on FL studio 9, I've always been a bit of a musician, but now I'm able to be the producer and composer, the writer, and not have to fight with anyone.

What do you guys think? I made this in a couple hours. I think it's really good and got a nice vibe to it.

Sounds really good.  The only suggestions I have are:

1. pick something different for the percussive sound in the beginning that sounds like hitting a trash can top.  It doesn't mesh well with the synth.
2. the high hat that comes in at like 2:02 has a drawn out sound that I do not enjoy.  I think it would sound better with a less drawn out high hat noise per stroke.

Music always helps with my anxiety. Music helps with just about anything that's wrong for myself actually. Music is the key!

Pulse doesn't really fly in most circles... i like it though. it's simple, but...nice background music.

save the end, it's like, just ... well, i guess it just turns into normative EDM with that typical Egyptian type pop melody.

I've had a very strong, clinically diagnosed anxiety (GAD) for going on 6 years now. My girlfriend also is clinically diagnosed with an anxiety disorder but (SAD) in her case for going on 10 years. The type of diagnosis doesn't mean much if anything, we just both have it and have been dealing with it for a long time.

We were both prescribed Setraline when first diagnosed. She took it for a month and stopped due to increased depression. I took mine for a week and stopped because of the physical side effects I had. I'm pointing this out because unless Setraline (or any SSRI) is the only way you can lead a semi-normal life, you should not take it IMO.
Anxiety the way you and I have it will never go away, or at least not anytime soon. All that the ssri's are doing are really masking the underlying issues as well as causing harm to your physical self.

As for quick acting anxiety meds, my girlfriend has been RX'd Kolonopin and I've been RX'd Alprazolam all these years. We both keep one tablet of our respective benzos with us at all times in case of an incoming panic attack, but NEVER take it just because we're having an extra shitty day dealing with our issue. When your body becomes dependent on a benzo, it's just rough. I won't get too into it but it leads to Grand Mal seizures among many other horrible side effects when you stop taking it.

I just wanted to share my experience with you as well as a little bit of my girls' to let you know we're people with the same issue as you but have somehow managed to deal with it without the meds unless absolutely necessary.

I also wanted to tell you that we use music as an outlet for it as well. I'll just play guitar and she'll sing ...it just makes the world make sense again. I'm happy music, albeit in a differrent form works for you. I love the track. Keep it up, brother! :peace &

If you ever need someone to talk to about this, my inbox is always open. It helps me a lot when I speak about it to people with the same/similar issue. So don't hesitate, and take care.

Sertraline works great on my severe depression. I dunno about prescribing it for anxiety disorders, though.

TL:Dr: Yea, I don't think Setraline should be RX'd for just anxiety either, but I'm glad it works for you.

Out of all the SSRI's that doctors have tried to shove down my throat over the years, I believe Setraline was the one with the least amount of side effects. I don't know how effective it was for my anxiety because I didn't take it for long enough to take effect.

Anxiety and depression are very closely related when it comes to how the brain reacts & "looks" in terms of chemical inbalance but the actual, personal feeling between the two illnesses I'd imagine are completely different. I have a friend that had a heavy case of manic depression and Setraline really helped him.

I just think for anxiety, no meds are really needed. I don't just think this, I know this because I had multiple daily panic attacks to the point of blacking out for months on end. Eventually my body/mind started slowly learning how to slow down these attacks.

Nowadays it's still a constant struggle but if you met me you wouldn't even be able to tell what I've been through in the past.

sounds better but I find that quarter note bell sounding percussion at 2:03 to be irritating.  have you tried a fast closing high hat?  I think that would fit best.  or maybe a more interesting closed high hat pattern.
