Don't tell elastic I said this but... the tiger drop is terribly risky and screams bad practice.

I don't mind it in theory with pasty plates. But a dish

Popping it out of a dish seems a little fishy. I'm pretty wary of doing it in a pasty plate too since you can't really see contams on a big ol piece of fully colonized agar.

I do it all the time with my tri plates lol. I also had the big agar plates that I would cut in half to tiger drop. It's actually really easy in a dish.
Flame sterilize, reach in through the edge of the tri plate and push up, the piece will just pop off. Stab then drop.
If it's a full agar plate, flame sterilize, cut in half, go in from the edge, pop up and drop. I flame sterilize between agar wedges on a full plate because I'm crazy. On the tri-plate I pop them all off first and then stab and drop.
Wait, is that even tiger dropping?

No, tiger dropping involves never touching anything and using the container it's in to pop it out. There's no stab, no cut, no flame sterilize.

Sounds like you like to pop out big wedges, which is different but similar.

Well tri-plates aren't big wedges.
When I had the full on agar dishes that I didn't like they were half the size of the plate, so yeah pretty big. But they always went into water for LI

I've got two Big Lots agar dishes growing out Golden Teachers on the left, and Texas yellow caps on the right.

What should I do with these. Both are showing nice growth. This is the second plate isolating these two from MS syringes. Sorry I can't get a better pic through the lid, but both are showing the fan formations now from the tomentose(?) growth. What should I do with them? Make a syringe and flood the plate, then suck up the water and inoculate grain jars? Or grow them further? I have BHTs fruiting and Mazas 75% colonized in BRF jars, probably my last PF teks, and 10 jars of oats starting to kick with KSSS ms, which I plan to do in a 20 qt mini. (I'm having such a good time.) Now, what next with these two plates? Where do I go from here?
Is this where second year students get stuck? Wondering what next? Or am I just an idiot, to go along with being a bald-headed old bastard?

Weird. It shows up for me.
Anyway, the Big Lots plates work well. There is a lot of condensation, however. Not sure what the remedy is for that.

why not both? take 1-2 transfers from the plates then turn them into LI! I always transfer my LI plates, so that I retain a copy of that culture.

Since I got the right jars--wide mouth half pints--I'm going to take you advice and do both. I'll take a couple of chunks to fresh agar plates and then liquefy the rest on brf/verm/gyp. 3 jars each (since that's all I can do at once in my crappy PC) of golden teachers and TX yelow caps. Thanks for the help.

I picked up some of those dishes last night. I haven't opened them yet but I think the lid is still cloudy rather than clear. I may try to work with them upside down so I can clearly see what is going on. I tried the small ziplock containers, but for me it's a problem that I have a hard time seeing what is going on with the growth.
