Questions concerning reagent test kits

Hello. I have a mandelin, marquis, & ehlrich reagent test. I have some questions about them, if someone could answer them for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
-How long do reagent tests stay good for? -How will I know when they go bad? -Is there any way that I can test my reagent tests to make sure they are not contaminated thus give a false positive reaction? -Can I wipe the top of the dropper off after I am finished testing & ready to screw the cap back on?
Have a good day.

Are they premixed? They should last a long time as long as the components aren't mixed together and are kept in tightly sealed containers. Mandelin and marquis use concentrated sulfuric acid which absorbs water from the air like a sponge, diluting it to the point where it is useless.

I'm sorry but I am not sure what you mean by premixed. Do you mean that all the tests came ready to use from the get-go without me having to mix up any sort of solutions or chemicals? It is the "bunk police" test kits. They came already made & ready to be used.
Their is vermiculite in the small cylinder-like containers they came in (& which I store the actual reagent tests in), do I keep the verm in the containers or dump it out?
Just to make sure I am understanding what you mean by "Mandelin & marquis use concentrated sulfuric acid which absorbs water from the air like a spong, diluting it to the point where it is useless"... Are you saying that the mandelin & marquis tests get more & more diluted every time a single test is done because you are of course, taking off the cap, & exposing the reagent test to the open air. Therefore I should replace the cap immediately after using?
The question that I am most concerned about is, "Is there any way that I can test my reagent tests to make sure they are not contaminated thus give a false positive reaction?" I tend to worry too much & stray on the side of caution with these sort of things but I just want to make sure that the tests are not giving false positive reactions. An example of how this could possibly happen. Say by accident someone touches the dropper end on a substance that tested positive. Now every single test afterwards would test positive even with unknown substances that would test negative if the dropper didn't get contaminated.
Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it koods. Hope you have a good day. Peace.

They stay good for about a year maybe 2 if stored really well in the fridge away from moisture.
For some you will know they go bad once the solution gets really really dark. Another way you could tell is just keep a small small sample of something you know is pure and tested and just go off of how the reagent reacts to it.
I don't think you can test your reagents
I'm sure you could but I wouldn't just for the worry that I could get some paper in it or something that could react to the rest of the solution in the container. Just be careful when using it and put the cap back on tight.

Thank you for the advice. Right now, they are being stored in a cabinet in a dark room. The temperature is around 68-70 F. Should I keep the vermiculite in the containers? I'm not sure if that was put in there to keep them from going bad while in transit or to keep them from going bad in general.
I will do that. (keep a small sample of something I know is pure)
I have not tested any blotters with my reagent kits yet. I tested some 4-aco-DMT & MXE so far. During the testing of the 4-aco-dmt I got too close to the powder. Like I said, I worry about this stuff.
Also, another question, I hope you don't mind... Do I shake up the reagent dropper bottle before doing a test? I ask because I just looked at the Mandelin test & it looks like there is a separation of whatever solutions/substances are inside the dropper. On the bottom of the dropper, there is a thick, yellow, opaque looking solution then on the top there is more of a thin, more "liquidy" transparent solution.
Thank you for all the help. I really do appreciate it big time.

Yea just be really careful when testing. Also you should test only on glass so the test surface doesn't interact with the sample because those reagents are strong acids. I once tested some MDMA and forgot to wipe off this glass plate and put it on my backpack(stupid I know haha) and it burnt a hole completely through my backpack. And I think the verm is just to help keep the moisture content low although desiccant would be a better choice for that

I used a white ceramic dining plate as the test surface. Afterwards, I washed it off. I have little silica packets, the same desiccant for drying mushrooms.
& shit those acids sound strong. Burnt a hole in a backpack? Dayuuum. I'd be sad if that happened to my jansport backpack I've had since like middle school. lol. Thanks for the headups on how strong that stuff is.
Next time I do any tests with the Ehlrich reagent I will also test whatever the suspected substance it is with another reagent test to make sure that it is infact what it tested positive for.
Thanks for the replies.
