When i made jars on the dry side the spore solution ran staight to the bottom of the jar. When grain is not to dry the solution seems to merge with the moisture and u get a nice row of myc from top to bottom. Ehen a bit dry the solution has minimal moisture to merge with and mainly ends up on bottom. This is just in my limitied experiance and i could be wrong.

I am far from an expert, just what i have seen. For all i know i could be way off but i made a batch of wbs that was not soaked nearly long enough and all they mycelium started at the bottom, once i shook them things returned to an even spread.

I did a 24 hr presoak simmered on low for a hour, strained dried and pc'd 12 jars all of them 500 ml with a self healing port to the side and polyfill fae port in the middle. My theory is that because the popcorn is so loosely packed in the jar and because my ports are to the side that the spore soloition collected together at the bottom. Just a theory because popcorn is so big and provides a lot of air between each grain.

Popcorn is terrible for catching spores and culture so it slides right to the bottom. However no matter what grain is used culture is going to grab on better. With popcorn my growth always started at the bottom.

You don't need to soak popcorn. Just boil it until it's soft enough that you can crush a kernel with your fingers which shouldn't be any more than 40 minutes.

Oh I didn't know that, just figured I would be cautious. Will keep that in mind for next time.
