potential scammer..need help

So i've decided to sell my wrecked civic as is, and almost immediately i got a text message saying how he wants to buy it but is out of town and will send a cashiers check.
I know cashiers checks can easily be made fraudulent, banks will cash them, but if found out to be a fake, I will end up owing the bank that money..and by the time they find out its fake, my title to my vehicle will be long gone as well.
I told him I don't feel comfortable with that...so now he is offering to do it through pay-pal.
Strange thing is, he is sending about $600 extra then the asking price and is requesting I money gram that money to his 'pick up' guy.
Reeks of a scam, but I mean, if the money is in my paypal and then I quickly withdraw it..paypal should protect me right?
Or should I just pass...? really needing the cash so I dont know..

No "potential" about it; that's a scammer.
Don't fuck around with PayPal. Just pass on this offer. You'll only get screwed in the end.

so fake, don't even waste your time. Most are done by bots hence the quick response. I had a ton of those replies when I went to sell my recording equipment. Exact message for multiple different ads always sell in person

that's called an overpayment scam - someone tried to do that to me when I was selling something online. i've never heard of it being done through paypal, but it still sounds suspicious and i wouldn't go ahead with it. any time someone offers to pay extra and then wants you to send some of the money somewhere else, then it's very likely the overpayment scam.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...trust your instincts.
So, he is having some one else pick up the car? Tell him that he can do his money transfer with that dude cause you'll only take cash. No way Jose.

yeah i told him to fuck off, i'm now doing a bit of detective work.
I played along for a bit just to gain more information about him...I'm a bit of a white hat hacker, not really all that great but I can gather information.
May leave it alone..or may figure out who he is and pwn his PC

although it might be a nice distraction from your recent loss, I would just leave it alone. Maybe look into a wrecker to take your car? or see if you can part it out yourself
