Why is mycelium popping up above casing layer instead of pins?!

My casing layer was applied at the same time I fruited (2 days ago)
I checked it out now and noticed that the mycelium is taking the casing layer over with NO pins but it's only covered like 5% of the casing...
In your experience when does one begin to see pins?
I'm anxiously awaiting...hoping not to see any contams!!

that's normal. whats your casing materials? fruited right at 100% its not uncommon to wait 7-10 days for pins. very dependent on your genetics. same goes for aggression in casing layer colonization speed.

Casing material was peat and verm, 50/50..A little gypsum and other ingredients according to the site I got it from (reputable vendor).
I will wait then.
I've misted on the first day, and everyday I open it up to fan...it doesn't seem dry, yet..but I rather it be slightly damp than saturated. But I will keep checking, providing a little more FAE than the holes on the tub will provide and hope for the best.
Thanks again!

are you rocking a monotub or sgfc?
sounds like a mono, you dont wanna fan those. mist if it looks dry only, but it shouldn't be. at least not on the first day!

Yes sir rocking the mono...and I will definitely stop fucking with it!!
I'll post a couple pictures in a few days...The mycelium has popped up with no contams, and the last time I misted was 2 days ago...so hopefully I'll be good.
Isn't it better to be on the dryer side than wetter? Think I've read that contams thrive in wet environments (or that's where they are "born")
Edit: just read the link of yours on dialing in your monotub in like a boss.
I do have condensation on the walls/lid, and the top holes have a ring where there is no condensation there....The bottom holes not so much because I made sure it was TIGHTLY packed with polyfill

Definitely be patient man. I've had some wierd experiences with trays and tubs. Ive had a tub that was multispore inoc on to rye grain, cased in a tub and showed aggressive mycelium on the casing layer but still no pins after 28 days. Temps were between 73 and 80 at all times, humidity was between 95 and 100 at all times. Just as I was about to call it quits, I see 2 pins form on day 35 after casing. First flush was dissapointing... 2nd and 3rd however... wow big lush fruits and lots of em.
Moral of the story. Patience is a virtue, especially in this hobby.
Good luck hombre

during fruiting you're gonna want good fae going on. since you have a casing layer you can give a fuckton of FAE, try to make the dry rings on the top be dry lines going down towards tothe sub. when/if the casing layergets lighter in color you know its time to mist.
