Indeed, buy old nokia, 3310,3510i,6100,8210 etc :-)
Then buy a laptop + 3g data card, laptop is much better for surf than a smartphone
you can also connect laptop to any nokia phone via data cable, irda, bluetooth
I prefer this way much over a smartphone, 6100 is the ultimate phone for me + laptop It's a pleasure to sms on + I can surf the web on the go if I need it via datacable
I only buy to suit my needs, and at this moment I just got a 3310 since I never use internet on the go anymore. But when I did, the 6100 + laptop was very nice, I dont need faster internet than gprs on the go, because most places wont have faster anyway...
You cannot upload youtube vids over 3g everywhere on the go i.e.. , most places only got poor GPRS reception
best part... 14 days on standby for the Nokia 6100! ;-P , vs 16 hours on Galaxy phones
So you can use internet on it and it will still last a week standby... kickass

Lessismore, I don't really recognize your qualms. Sure, any smart phone drains its battery much faster than an old school handset, but they're very usable in every respect. I'm sure millions of people agree with me. Maybe you had a spot of bad luck back in 1783 with your s3.

Yeah I mean if I could take my laptop with me out on the shop floor at work then I would but I can't and it's also a pain to drag a laptop with me everywhere I go. This is kind of a moot discussion, as no one is saying a smart phone is more powerful or useful than a laptop, just that they're more convenient.
Anyways, I've decided to just try and score an "old" phone on ebay for a reasonable price and go from there. I figure if I can get a Galaxy S4 or LG G3 for a decent price then I'll make it work. I did a hard reset on my original phone the ZTE Overture and now it's running much faster which is ok but I still want a bigger screen and slightly faster performance, I hate feeling the lag while shroomering at work lol.

Ask ANY geek what is best: phone or laptop for hacking?
They say laptop + 3g modem / a wireless modem
Phone is not useable for much, sure it is a fun gadget that geeks like, but that's it, and they can extend normal phones with functionality
But the basic functionality worked often best in older phones, which had physical buttons
I hate typing on a smartphone, it's pretty useless. But I suppose I would have done anything to justify buying my $700 phone when I bought it too
The real hacking is on linux, old laptops(linux doesn't care about hardware), and wireless modems/wifi wardriving
A phone is just to fit in
(feel free to replace hacking with "fun" in the above)

Dude you don't know shit about anything. I've rooted every android phone I've ever owned since my Droid Eris and have had little to no problems doing any of things you've mentioned in your post. My rooted nexus was awesome and even when overclocked I was getting close to 20 hours battery life out of it easily. It was a Samsung and guess what? It never dropped a single call in the two years I had it. Im currently using the HTC m8 rooted and its probably one of the fastest phones I've ever owned and ive had it for almost 2 years.

It's a real shame USB can't travel from laptop to phone but vice-versa apparently it can. I've tried several times making my laptop the Hotspot but to no avail. I'm probably just noob though.
Yeep I did it like that for bluetooth, using my PSP to game and stream on computerscreen w/o cables.
You can't upload YT vids O_O whoa
Thanks, if I do buy a phone it will be Nokia xD

My friends HTC Desire has 100x better signal than my galaxy S3
And that is an OLD phone
I just don't recommend buying a Samsung, it's usually a shit phone, and my bro has one too China plastic phone
Plz stfu, you think you know, so 20hours is a lot huh? lol 20 hours is not even enough to get back from work...
You would have to bring charger with you EVERYWHERE
Btw the screen on my galaxy S3 cracked all over in multiple places, from dropping onto carpet from table height, after about a month! It's supposed to be crackfree gorilla glass, I call bullshit on that, it landed on the edge and cracked all over
Samsung is the worst phone you can buy, but Iphones have poor signal too
The highest quality looking smartphone I've seen past 5 years is a HTC legend, aluminum body, looks high quality and feels so too Don't buy a plastic smart phone , don't buy a Samsung even if they say they use metal now

Yes I'm obviously aware, couldn't you tell? lol
They made Galaxy S3 one month, then next 4-5 months came S4, S5
But before that S2 a few years before...
So they just make a new one 5 times a year and hope people buy because it's the newer model, then they gladly pay $300 extra for same features

Are you not going to address the link I just showed you? You literally said its the same hardware with a bigger and screen and no other differences. There's been like 12 software updates between the S3 and the S6, so what are you even talking about? Even then, you're still wrong because the hardware has been drastically improved. The S3 was completely plastic

Also, they only release one phone per year. Wrong again, what a surprise.

I'm spamming the thread by telling you you're fucking wrong? And now i'm convinced you're willingly ignoring my link. And again, the S6 isn't plastic.. where are you getting your information?

didn't read the thread, but if it's a gsm phone, you can call the carrier where the phone came from and they'll usually give you the unlock code.
That's how it used to be, at least.

I could wrap my galaxy s5 in tinfoil and I'd STILL get better service than your shitty ass nokia's. The only think a nokia is good for, is putting into a sock, and beating someone to death with and then stealing their smart phones.
Please tell me how your shitty 1XEV Edge Network Cell phone out preforms my Galaxy S5?
The S5 has more computing power than lower end laptops bro. Your laptop with a 3G CARD (lmfao 3g. how cute) doesn't even come CLOSE to the speeds a 4g phone can do, even a 4g phone from YEARS AGO is faster than a 3g laptop.
You obviously browse the internet with internet explorer, and have no fucking idea how computers, or cellphones, or even the internet works.
If your hand is so fucking fat, greasy and gargantuan in size that you prevent an iphone or an android from connecting to a network I have an idea, you don't need a new phone, you need a fucking diet and a gym membership. The only possible reason I could see for you not wanting a smart phone is your greasy mammoth hands leave smears on the touch screen. Or your giant titan paws crush and crack the screen under the weight of your massive thumbs.
You're seriously more dense than a nokia 3310 which is fucking miraculous.
But I'll give one thing, a nokia 3310 has more computing power than your miniscule brain
