Not too sure what kind of bolete these are, but they're popping up around after the rains. After some reading, they seem to have some of the features of the Edulis, but I don't have any experience with actually foraging or identification yet.

Habitat: Found growing on the tundra in the NWT, area is about 150-200m away from the nearest body of water, low lying and not treed. Surrounding vegitation includes buck brush and lichens, a long side cariboo moss.

Gills: Pores, tyical of the bolete family. White on young specimens, greybrown on older.

Stem: Stem is white or brown, possibly reticulated. size is variable, though significantly thinner than the cap.

Cap: I've seen the caps range in size from 4cm to 15cm, they're brown and look slightly slimy when wet, drying to a texture something like a leather or rubber.

Bruising: They dont really bruise. Possibly a slight browning to the flesh

General location: Tundra of the northwest territories, canada.

Additional information: Has a light earthy aroma, and a mild taste when a small piece is applied to the tongue.

Thanks for the suggestion, looks promising. Heres a couple more, with some different morphologies. The "twins" on the left look a bit more like edulis?

cheers
